About success (Patreon)

Now that I have your attention with this high quality picture of Squishy...
I've finally gotten back to songwriting again! The biggest factor holding me back until now was exhaustion from unrealistic pressure put on myself by myself. When will I remember the value of rest, especially for my creative freedom? I need this lesson in order to be able to not only create, but to more continuously feel happy and at ease.
Maybe you can relate to this kind of push as well. Given how everything around us tries to tell us that the harder we work, the more successful we are. But success is something so individual and relative. If we don't feel happy doing all these things because we're pushing and pulling so hard, or it's not even what we actually want, is it really success in your eyes? Some things demands that we loosen the grip. Just take sleeping as an example, the more we try to fall asleep the more awake we feel. Sometimes we just have to let go.
My reasons for pushing too hard is two things:1. I sometimes confuse my self-worth with how well I perform and how productive I am. 2. I have so many dreams and ideas and don't want to miss important opportunities. If you also push yourself too hard, or not hard enough - what is holding you back?
I think we can all benefit from realising that sitting down, embracing where we're at today and where we want to be (and why not simply observe for a while) can lead us exactly where we need to be. Sometimes that's even where the spark is born.
Success should be defined on your own terms, you decide. It's easy to lose track of what's important for us personally and what we see as "being accomplished". You don't need to have a certain job, a girlfriend, money or whatever things around us tries to tell us. It's more often than not just a marketing trick for sellers to get you to buy their product. (This does not include hamsters)
SO the reason I'm writing all of this is to remind you that you don't need to achieve a certain something to feel happiness or to be "successful". It's not uncommon that the pursuit for something out of our reach is the biggest reason we feel unfulfilled. We already have everything we need inside of us. If we can practice to be grateful for what we do have and see our journey to reach our dreams as exactly that: an exciting journey we get to enjoy and steer in the direction we choose. Why not try to make the journey as enjoyable as possible for us and remind ourselves that we are fucking great as we are already!
ALL THE LOVE(I'll share a post in a bit about the new song I mentioned in the beginning of this post)
