Process of making lyrics | New song in the making! (Patreon)

I briefly mentioned earlier that someone Artoour knows reached out to me with a song he wished for me to sing. I really liked the instrumental so was pulled to this from the start.

He gave me full creative freedom with changing the melody and lyrics. SO I scrapped the lyrics completely and also did some tweaks in the melody. I finished the lyrics today so I wanted to share the process of writing them!

I attached my first two documents of the very messy creative process of writing lyrics. I think we sometimes get the idea that creating should be just right immediately (or it's a waste of time). And the fear of not making it good enough can stop us from putting that pen on the paper (or fingers on the keyboard) in the first place. But I've found that when I allow it to be messy and "not good enough", a place for my creativity is born. That creative freedom is so important. I cannot stress that enough. Being fine with messing up and instead focusing on enjoying the ride. To try our way forward til we feel at home with what we create. Sometimes that home is a big YES and sometimes just a "...I guess". But it's all part of the creative progress. 

It's also good to let the pen rest for a while. Do something different that allows the mind to wander to another place. But that is always where the trickiest part comes. That little pause (or pauses depending on the length of the project) is often the most crucial make or break it stage since it's so easy for doubt to grow in that space. I usually have a huge "what if I can't make it good enough" tattooed in my head. But we just have to push through that. Adjust our mentality and keep scribbling over what we did, refining and rewriting. And before we know it we're sitting there with a little extension of who we are or what we feel in front of us. 

After all, we have never failed until we give up trying.
