I have an idea!

something to extend your invitation further to join my journey back to music and with the intention to help me get started with less pressure.

I thought back to when I did music march where I learned, recorded and uploaded one song every day of march. I just went for it, I didn't have time to second guess too much, I had to just go go go. Now this was an INTENSE project (especially combined with streaming 3 days a week) that I'm definitely not ready to do again but I'd love to just go head first into learning a cover and record it, though without the pressure of uploading it to youtube.

I don't have everything I need to do proper recordings yet, but I would like to practice and de-rust and I believe this could be a good way to do so.

If you'd like to join, then simply suggest a cover you'd like to hear me sing here in the comments and I'll pick one of them to learn and share with you later. We're probably looking at a phone audio recording (unless I can set things up). I want the focus to be on learning a song to the point of being able to "perform" it, with little pressure of how perfected it is.

Simply an invitation to help me dive right in, regardless if I faceplant or fly, I want to at least try.

Love you!~ Joy

I would love being a part of the journey <3 well there are 2 songs I would like to offer from the same artist, first is sick of losing soul mates, second one is 6/10 both are made by dodie.

JoyAileen

ahhh tato ;-; <3 Im so incredibly indescribably happy to have you be on this journey with me <3 aaaaaah I did a dodie song in music march!! Thank you for these wonderful suggestions <3

RetroBoy

OK just had another idea, I know joy did things like that before, but what about a seq shanty like wellerman or drunken sailor, there been a lot of them going around recently and they been stuck in my head

I've got a few!! But don't feel pressured to sing them if it doesn't feel right. I'd much rather hear other songs sung with joy (that's u! Hehe) than one I sent in but don't really feel. : The Only Exception by Paramore, I'm With You by Avril Lavigne Rollercoaster by Duncan Lawrence. These are all songs that I think would sound beautiful if you sang them ☺️ might be a bit of a challenge because the first two are played on guitars but I hope that's not that big an issue. Much love 💛

Ooooh what an honour for us to be able to suggest pieces for you to consider! I'm feeling jazz! How about a slow jazz cover of Smoke Rings? (Here is one interpretation, though she is playing at roughly twice the speed typically preferred for this piece... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iBqBI539PcQ ) Or another jazz favourite - "I've got the world on a string" (interpreted by - amongst others - Ella Fitzgerald https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QXeEXnhuFzk&t )? Oh, something later than the 40´s? How about Beth by KISS? I certainely think its time for a LGBTQ+ version. ;) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWFc1yUy1lM Whats that? Something from AFTER the year 2000? Ok... How about Rhianna's Diamonds? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lWA2pjMjpBs Oh... and I CANNOT post this without challewnging you to take on a song that ALWAYS reminds me of your Bing Bong Song. Try Kerensa's "Imaginary Friends". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H8jzXcJkSps ;) No matter what you choose, I'm sure you will excel! :) Most of all - have fun with it!

The reason I thought you might like it is cause omg flower name and it's' a lovely little song!! Have fun with the music I love youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!

Hmm, I think my comment with my suggestions just completely disappeared. Anyway, Joy, I know it must be some woolen thing but in that picture it totally looks like someone lopped off your right arm and it's kinda freaking me out!

JoyAileen

the heck ;-; I saw you posting it but i can't find it either!! please feel free to share the songs again if you can be bothered T_T I only remember "call me maybe" hahaha! OMG the lopped of arm, I can't unsee it now hahah

PenniePepper

Of course! I was hoping you could still see it somehow but it only gives me the opportunity to ramble more. Call Me Maybe is a Joy classic as far as I'm concerned! Did you ever see Postmodern Jukebox's ragtime/slide piano version? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5meWI3iX1sE My other silly suggestion is Eric Carmen's Hungry Eyes, but as a Snacktime Theme version: Hangry Eyes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ssCL292DQA Anyway, yeah, my actual serious suggestion was Rather Be by Clean Bandit. You tried it when Twitch Sings was still a thing and you seemed to enjoy it, and you were really good with it! One that is kinda more a suggestion to listen to: an album I've loved since I was a kid is Katie Noonan's Blackbird. She's an Australian classical/jazz singer from Brisbane; it's jazz versions of Beatles' songs. I heard some of these here for the first time, so it was weird hearing the Beatles' versions. I like how she doesn't always switch pronouns, so I can get And I Love Her from a woman singer. Uh, she kinda looks like Ela now I think of it, haha. My favourite is For No One; such a beautiful, sad song. You might like the piano-led version of Blackbird. It reminds me of you, Joy. You were meant to sing, you love singing, you're incredibly gifted and the lyrics were always an encouragement for expression against any obstacles. Blackbird: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U9MZz8KB-O8 For No One: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YPjogsBIIZg And I Love Her: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=61L7FKkSTkE I was also kinda wishing you to try a Lana Del Rey song, like Summertime Sadness or Shades of Cool (I still get Pebbles' vibes from that one, haha). And that I'd pretty much die if you ever covered All the Things She Said, hehe: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YTvIG6gHMh0 Anyway, I hope you're having fun and feeling free with it all! :)
