I was listening to a podcast where I got reminded of how impactful it is to bring your focus to the process of your project instead of the result. The people who make great things also makes A LOT of things (not all "good" stuff of course). Typically those who are too fixated on perfecting the end result end up, well, not creating any product at all (I've fallen into this category when it comes to music).

So I gave myself a challenge of writing a song in one hour. No other rules than that. Didn't matter how crappy it ended up, what was important was that I finished a song from scratch in 60 minutes.

Little did I know, it actually worked. I let my inner perfectionist take a backseat (actually leave the car all together), and whenever the thoughts of: "this isn't good enough" came creeping in, I glanced over at the clock and realised there was no time to listen to that voice.

A song was born! In an hour! Not a very great song mind you haha, but a song nonetheless. I didn't even bother to record that song, but not very long after this, while editing a video, lyrics suddenly came rushing to me. I had to write them down and I soon found myself on the piano again.Absolutely in the flow of writing, another song was taking form. This one was honest and real, an extension of my emotions. It was a way for me to finally express thoughts I've held so close to my heart I hadn't even let it reach my journal. I didn't worry about the typical structure of a song or chord progression, it was only me and the piano.

I felt so much joy (and pain that needed to be felt).

Turns out that creating without obsessing over the result actually works, just not in the way I expected.

I want to share this song with you, it's not a properly made recording, it's not perfect, but it's mine!

As with everything I share here it's for your ears only (except your pet's, mum's and/or partner's ears).

lyrics:

I know you can't stand the thought of saying goodbye againBut I can't bare the thought of never feeling your lips on mine again

To never touch that scratchy chinNever feel the rumbling laugh in your chest

I just want you here, with meto be held in your arms when all I feel is fear

Do you ever dream of paper planes bringing you hereDo you remember what it was like to love like our first year

When both of us would hear silent cries of pain and joy and not be too distracted to listen

I'm here, where are youWill I ever feel you again

I know you said not to waitbut I am waiting for you

Thank you for being my patron <3 Thank you for listening <3~ Joy

Absolutely beautiful!!! I love that you challenged yourself to block out that perfectionist. I have struggled with that in the past. Listening to this song and reading the lyrics… I can say that both the music and the words have touched my heart. So much so that I started crying. Thank you for doing this and expressing yourself through music. It is so beautiful Joy 🧡🧡🧡
