I've done lots of baking with my new kitchen aid, been meaning to show you, but I've lost all my "spoons" (energy) and they seem to only last for very specific tasks, like baking or sudden spurts of putting clutter away. It seems somewhat impossible to find the energy I need, and I know I'm not the only one experiencing that. 🥄☕

So I suppose, what I'm trying to say is, if you feel low on energy or struggle to get things done, you're not alone.

I've tried to find my vampire activities.. as in the things I do that only suck the life, joy and energy out of me :D .. it seems currently that's youtube shorts for me. So I'm trying to put myself under a bit of a ban for it, at least until it's less of an autopilot decision to watch shorts, and not just good old entertainment. It seems to help me rest a bit better, I pick up a book instead (which I personally enjoy much more) or avoid delaying the thing I needed to get out of the way (but wanted to procrastinate through youtube shorts).

I'd love to hear what your "vampire activities" may be. In the quest of finding spoons and consciously making better decisions with the ones I already have, I believe in slow progress. And often the biggest leap is simply identifying what is and isn't working for me to begin with.

Thank you for being you, it's an honour to share this journey with you. 💛

Lots of love, Joy

Uni has for sure been and continues to be one of my vampire activities. Also just in general how the society schedules things. For me that is neurodivergent it really throws me off ? Like starting early in the morning with lectures at like 8 am is not it

They look so delicious. I bet the tasted as awesome as they look. For me the vampire activities at the evening before going to bed can be YT shorts aswell, I actually try to restrict myself from watching shorts form the home feed and just watch the once created by the subs I have. I did fall in the Instagram trap last night and it turned out to be 4 am. Luckily no work today, „just“ stuff I wanted to achieve During the day it’s either twitch, but I gotten better at that and now do stuff during streams and vods. Or books I sometimes just spent the hole day reading even so I’ll know I have stuff that has to be done. With the reading it is still a little difficult, but I try to set me time limits for reading as a little reward instead of just finishing the some task and than read.

Vampire activities, I like that term. It's definitely Instagram for me, doom scrolling for little to no reward. Makes sense that I've been putting off some tasks, nervousness/fear of failure, that I've wanted to get stuck into by doom scrolling. Will limit my usage, those small steps to improving my wellness 😊

Mine used to be Twitter, reddit and YouTube. I started out with 1 hour per day on all 3. When I stopped I spent around 10 hours per day on them. I was constantly drained. Twitch actually helped me get away from it.

aaaah it's exactly the same for me with YouTube shorts 😭 I wish they were on a separate app so I could avoid it like I did with tiktok. but long videos on YouTube actually bring me a lot of value so I get tricked into shorts and get stuck there and feel horrible during and after. sooo heccing draining but so hard to stop!

JoyAileen

omg SAME!!! Exactly that 😭 I set the rule for myself that I'm not allowed to watch shorts at all for now, but I can watch long youtube videos. But it's so easy to get tricked into the shorts once you open it up. It worked for a while to stay away from shorts but yesterday and today I started to fall back into it. I'm not completely sure how to navigate it. To allow a little bit gets me into the endless loop, so I feel like to "ban" it completely for myself is the only way 🙃 maybe I'll ban it on all days but the weekend? I will update if I figure it out hahah! It's nice to hear we're not fighting the battle alone at least haha 🧡

JoyAileen

Ahhh YES, and it is SO easy for it to just become endless like that. I relate to that constantly drained feeling. That's definitely where I end up with youtube shorts, twitter and instagram. It seems limiting myself, being a bit harsh or disciplined is the only way. Guiding myself basically. 🧡 It definitely comes to a point where it's not giving anything anymore, only draining and stealing. It's beautiful to hear the way Twitch helped with it for you too! 🧡

Alice

aah I'll try to h

Alice

aah I'll try and join you in that, I've tried banning myself too but every time I see a thumbnail and get curious to see jUsT oNe ViDeO I'm immediately sucked in for hours 🙄 maybe fighting together will be a good motivation. we've got this ♡

JoyAileen

ME TOO!! Hahah literally same. Yes, I love the idea of doing it together. 🧡 Accountability buddies! We've got this!!

JoyAileen

Ah thank you so much, I'm happy you liked it. OH yes!! It used to be instagram for me too. I actually found myself back at instagram when I "banned" youtube shorts for myself, I think my brain wanted to find what yt shorts gave me, somewhere else. I also noticed I especially want to open up the apps in the "in-between" moments. Like before I start a task I don't want to do, or dread. Very much like the examples you gave! Both when fear of failure plays a role, but also when I'm scared of being alone with my thoughts. Ah yes, exactly, it really does. I'm glad you are able to identify that, that's huge. That sounds great, I'm cheering you on and that's truly great steps to improve and care for your wellness. Well done!! 😊🧡 Motivates me to stick with it too!

JoyAileen

That makes so much sense. And there's so little to be done to limit how much it drains us. Especially when, like you said, it's structured in a way that isn't for neurodivergents ;_; I send you so much love <3

JoyAileen

Aw thank you so much Nmo!! 🧡 That's smart! That way you have better control over it being things you actually *want* to watch! Instragram is perhaps even harder to get out of, I totally understand. Ah yes! I totally feel you with that. I think it's important to remember that if it's something you enjoy and you get value out of, as long as it's not at a great expense of getting things done that you have to get done, it's all good! Especially when we make sure we don't carry any guilt around for it. I absolutely think we should make A LOT of time for things we enjoy! <3 You're doing great Nmo!! 🧡

KT

Good to know, will try and notice (and hopefully stop) if I do start to replace my vampire activity to scrolling through youtube shorts ❤️ Stop this cycle harming my wellness. Appreciate you so much, it's really helping give me a moment to reflect and make a change that'll be so impactful to my day to day. Thank you 😊

Instagram for me. I try to read books and spend time with the cats instead. Same goes for certain video games that are amazing for killing time but give me no lasting comfort or mental stimuli. The bread looks wonderful, Joy!! <3

Narangren

Vampire activities. That's a term I haven't heard, but I like it.

I think mine used to be WhatsApp so when i was trying to set it up on my new phone, and had some struggles with it, i decided to just stop trying and just leave it. I have found out that it gives me a bit more rest like i kept opening it even when i had no notification just to see if someone read what i said or if some things happened in group chats (i mutted those)
