The next episode of Broken Silicon will see us be joined by SadlyItsBradley! Bradly runs a VR-Focused YouTube channel that frequently breaks Valve-Related links, and so we here at MLID can't think of a better person to have on following the Steam Frame + Machine + Controller announcement!

In terms of subjects - anything related to VR, consoles, and gaming hardware in general is fair game. You have ~40 hours (until Sunday Morning) to submit below!

How would the experience of connecting a game to a Valve Headset be different than connecting a Meta Quest 3 to a game? How much easier do you think it will be to set up?

Why has Valve chosen failure by using failed AMD hardware instead of using Nvidia Tegra Superchips power all their new hardware?

Do you think that the new Steam Machine is already outdated for its price likely being closer to a PC than console, given that it is using fairly weak Hawk Point 2 and RX 7600M mobile parts from early 2023 for a box targeting 4K60? While SteamOS might help reduce overhead compared to Windows, it won't magically make these parts much faster. What alternative parts would you put into a Steam Machine instead?

Hi, Tom and Brad! This question is perfect for this collab! Valve recently ported SteamOS (Arch Linux based) to arm64 following their collaboration with the Arch Team. Tom has leaked info about AMD's Sound Wave which is a ARM based APU. Now Valve is preparing to launch their arm64 hybrid gaming VR Headset. Valve hired contractors to work on the FEX-Emu project which is a lightweight program that allows running x86-64 software on ARM64 CPUs including games which is demonstrated by the YouTube channel of the project and by Valve during the product showcase. So, after connecting the dots my question is: Do you think that Steam Deck 2 could have an AMD manufactured ARM64 based APU, which would provide the jump in performance per hour they said they want?

I believe that the steam machine is under powered, however them targeting medium settings upscaled to 4K is a very good target, I tried it and it looks great, the TV hides a lot compared to sitting up close like a monitor. What are your guys thoughts?

I can't be the only one thinking VR is just not something people want, for gaming at least. Even with a half life 3 vr exclusive release, sure it will sell great but how many of those units will end up collecting dust? As a proud owner of the quest two and three that recommends the experience, they both unfortunately collect dust. What will the steam vr do that will restart the vr hype or finally make vr something people want long term?

Apple vison pro, two years ago on Bradly's last appearance there was almost a positive outlook on it understanding that it was expensive partly because it was bleeding edge and was actually expensive to make. What are your thoughts on it now?

The Meta AR glasses are personally the coolest thing to recently launch. AR is something that I think more people will jump on over VR. Do you think more companies should switch to AR with their struggling VR departments or do you see this as another failed Meta product? I just hope laws are passed so I don't have to see adds on a random street corner if I do happen to pick a AR device in the future.

Hello Tom and Brad! I have seen a lot of people saying that 700 would be a fair price for the Steam Machine, and can't stop feeling that is pure fanboying. It is weaker than a PS5, it uses already anemic hardware, and it is the same price as an RTX 5060 8GB laptop at that price. And the way they sold it to the public as 4k capable feels like the Nvidia 5070 is a 4090 bullshit, but people are defending them because Valve. Then, the steam hardware survey used has some really wonky data. The vast majority of low end gamers on it will come from regions where the steam machine will not be available. And by that very survey, 10% of people are running 1GB of VRAM and under, which makes me question that survey itself. The better than 50% of the machines in the steam survey also seems dubious. 12+ GB of VRAM cards in that survey are already at 30%, all of them better than a 6600M. And, in the 30% of 8GB cards, it seems to be on the weaker end. Do you think it can have any success above 500 USD? Now, on the Steam VR machine, I feel will have the same price issue. The Index with no base stations is still 800. I doubt this new VR machine will be price competitive with the Quest 3, and will likely be 800-1000.

Hello Tom and Brad. Do you think it's at all likely we'll see something bigger than Xbox Magnus by any company? I'd like to see something like that but I also kinda doubt the engineering effort would go into such a niché product.

Hello, Tom and Bradley how much do you think Jensen is celebrating Steam machine only having 8GB of VRAM. Developers and players seem to move past 8GB only to be hit with a sledgehammer that is DRAM pricing and Steam Machine. His low-end GPU’s don’t seem so bad right now.

Tom and Bradley - I had a VR headset, played a few games and quickly tired of wearing the headset. When will someone make light weight VR or AR glasses? Note I'm completely unimpressed with Apple Vision, I want something close to glasses.

Xavbeat03

How do you think VRAM and SSD pricing increases will increase the acceptable price for entry level PC's and consoles? Would a $700 steam machine(if that's how they had to price it), look tempting because RAM, Storage, and GPUs all jumped in price by(hypothetically) 50%+.?
