Many people have pointed out that DLSS 1 also received immense pushback when it launched, just like DLSS 5 is now – are these situations the same?  Is Nvidia up to something far bigger, and possibly more nefarious, than people realize?

You even pointed out why the difference is so stark, you need to compare the path traced version on a 5090 to this DLSS 5. Zoom in to her eyes, she is wearing mascara and eye shadow, she has blush on, she is wearing lip gloss. No make up was added. Altered to look more realistic, sure, but not added. I'm not arguing this, it's facts, you can even see the very obvious eye shadow and blush in that low settings comparison. You are also forgetting that it is an early beta of a tech that will rely on developer input to shape. I mean people don't have a problem with AI making tree bark look better..

I'm not defending the demo, everything that was happening should have been explained and done in a 3 way comparison with the path traced model on ultra settings but the point was to show that you can select low settings and this tech will boost things to beyond ultra. No assets are being created, her lip shape comes from the cut scene model of Grace (31:24). I don't want to argue with you cause I respect you, but you are comparing the side by side that they presented instead of with assets that already live within the game (which I agree was dumb, they should have always had the cut scene model of Grace to show what this DLSS5 is pulling from)

I’m beginning to think that a certain percentage of the population just don’t have an Uncanny Valley response, in the same way that some people (apparently) don’t have an internal monologue. It’s the only explanation that makes sense for why 10-20% of people think the demo looks fine, while the vast majority find it disturbing. Locally run image generation/“enhancement” models are heavily VRAM dependent. The less VRAM you have, the longer they take. Assuming this feature will be using whatever spare VRAM isn’t taken by the game, I doubt it will work with less than 16GB. Even then, there will be a latency penalty incurred. Don’t expect it to run on anything less than a 4080 or 5070ti, even with all the optimisation in the world.
