The recap I have been waiting for

Joseph

is Charlize Theron eligible for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special

Remember The Padlet

This could have just been the “I’ve never been stung by a jellyfish/Royals” mashup and I’d have been overjoyed. Wonderful work from all involved.

Lucy

Love this ❤️

Beatriz Izumino

Tears in my eyes during Jellyfish. Bravo!

Greg

Sorry l but I’m laughing at Joe’s fantasy Oscar-winning intro team. Pesci barely tolerated the Oscar ceremony where he won! What makes you think he’s going to come to another ceremony just to do pablum? On a teleprompter that’s next to impossible to read?

Jenny Maurer

Sorry sorry one more thing: yes Danny devito should host the Oscar’s but he should do it with the it’s always sunny Cast

Anna Coote

The Royals cover was amazing, but “I won my Oscar on dry land” truly killed me 😂😂

Alexa

As a European Gary (tm) I was soooooosososo grateful for the early start and the shorter runtime tbh. I was in bed at 4 AM! Incredible! It was 6 AM last year!

This episode was delightful. I wasn’t nearly as interested in the show this year, so it was nice to hear your thoughts. Hilarious, as always. I watched bits of the red carpet to catch someone from one of my favorite tv shows. He’s an international star and received his first invite to the ceremony.

Lowell Bartholomee

Absolutely the worst In Memoriam segment in my memory. It's mind-boggling that they have a hard time doing this, though the Grammys did an ace job of it but I don't really watch the Grammys. This was always a segment I looked forward to, not to be ghoulish. It's sort of a last look at some people you have feelings for and some others you can at least mark their work. They really couldn't have come up with a worse way to do it short of just not doing it at all.

Erin Hardy

I truly love you guys. 🤣

Lance Hunter

Oh, y'all haven't been keeping up to date with Cuba Gooding Jr news... He's definitely not going to be appearing or presenting anything at the Oscars anytime soon.

Elliott Sainsbury

'Royals' (Taylor's version) is one of the best moments ever from the pod (up there with Joe's 'This Girl is on Fire' 60 second plot description)! There was an AMAZING jump cut in the telecast from Emma's speech to Annette Bening with what looked like... eyes of pure scorn. Wish I could find it but it's not in the YouTube clip!

Corey Baesler

can we please get an excursion episode that’s just chris making joe listen to mitski

Chauncey Telese

When playing the Emily Blunt game I was mad at myself for how quickly I cited both Gnomeo and Juliet and Sherlock Gnomes. Also I'm a little surprised that sunshine cleaning didn't come up.

I thought this was one of the easiest watching Oscars in a while, in a good way! I had a great time. Felt like I had my whole night ahead of me by ending at 7p Pacific. If I had my wish, KOTFM would have won at least Original Score... do I remember the score from Oppy? NO! But I certainly do for Killers. A glorious film, I shamelessly liked it much better than Oppenheimer. Totally agree about Emma Stone. I wish she'd won for The Favourite over La La Land (a movie I deplore). And then maybe that would have opened it up more Lily since Emma would have a more recent Oscars win. Oh well. Cast Lily is more films! I love her.

Hayley

LOVED Charlize’s monologue and Taylor’s version. I think she says “Diane” instead of “Diana”, kinda of knows something is off, then says “Diane” a second time. After watching Annette tell every reporter and roundtable for the last several months how obsessed she is with Diana, I couldn’t help but read a flicker of irritation when they cut to her. Thank you life thank you love.

Brandon Skidmore

I, too, have never been stung by a jellyfish but I have had a lesbian yell at me from a boat so I do relate to Nyad.

Clint

was yelling “sunshine cleaning!” all throughout the emily blunt game 🤣

Frank McCormick

"Second Wave Uggyism" is just *chef's kiss*. In slight defense of Jimmy Kimmel, he's not wrong, and certainly echoes the popular sentiment, that the actual experience of going to the movies is, for a lot of people, horrible. I mean, there's a reason people were so ready to embrace streamers. (Well, several reasons, but that's a whole podcast.) So I think the joke about there being so many ads was fine.

Joe! Confirmed hockey fan! I'm a Brit and absolutely nobody cares about hockey over here so I get absurdly excited whenever hockey crops up in random places. Hope the Sabres can get over the line this year 🏒

Arianna G

Sunshine Cleaning was my back pocket Emily Blunt!

Y’all, I had been looking SO forward to these Oscars. I don’t usually get that serious about awards season but I’d seen so many of the nominees this year and I actually had Opinions, and I planned my whole weekend around having a great time with the show… and then at noon on Sunday I got hit with a terrible stomach flu and spent the telecast half-listening from the bathroom. I followed the results via socials and watched the replay on Hulu while recovering the rest of the week, but it was not until I listened to this episode that I felt like the full joyous experience had been restored to me. Bless you boys, bless “Jellyfish (Taylor’s Version),” bless Andrea Bocelli, bless Oscar Nominee Pam Ribon, bless Zofran, amen.

Liz Explains

Jellyfish (Taylor's Version) was perfect

I believe I’ve heard that it’s an unwritten rule that there’s no movie ads during the commercial breaks. I agree that there should be some, but that’s why we didn’t get any
