Garys one and all, we are finally revealing this month's May miniseries! It was quite a challenge to come up with something you might enjoy as much as last year's 100 YEARS, 100... SNUBS!, so we have come up with something we think everyone can get excited about. Announcing: THIS HAD OSCAR BUZZ: 70s SPECTACULAR!!

This May, we will be looking back at every year within a decade many people consider not only Oscar's best decade, but movies at large. Each episode will discuss not only a film within the THOB wheelhouse, but the season and ceremony of each year! Among those episodes will be an Exception and Excursion (along with a 70s-centric call-in mailbag, see incoming post for details!!), so all of you Patreon Garys will be getting the full 70s SPECTACULAR experience!

Well, well, WELL, look at all this! Remember when the oldest film discussed was from 1987? Were we ever so young! I'm surprising myself a little bit realizing that this is the May-niseries (I hate myself) where I've seen the most movies going in (only 5, but still). TOMMY is nutty in a few ways, one being that it can be an exception and not a regular-episode candidate; I watched that during film school because one of my teachers wrote another of Ken Russell's films and I just wanted to see some more Russell. In conclusion, I cannot believe HAROLD & MAUDE is eligible for this show.

Omg so much Treat Williams discussion incoming 🫦🫠! If people don’t know what’s up they’re about to!

Thai is great! I’ll admit to being so old that my Oscars origin story begins in the 70s. I feel seen.

Annaliese

Chris Sullivan

I can't express how much I'm kicking myself for selling my New York, New York DVD when I did one of those "I'm moving, time to sell all my good shit" moments.

Michelle Brosius

Thank you Chris and Joe!! Us Garys are grateful. And this gives me the excuse to finally watch Network, part of my 70s catch-up. I so wanted to watch Up the Sandbox from the deep dive in Barbra's book, so thank you for choosing it!

May is my birthday month and I’m SO excited about this, particularly as someone who was a child in the 70s - for better or for worse, those were my formative years! My single mom (because, of course, Gen Xer being raised in the 70s) and I would go to the movies almost every Sunday that there wasn’t something else going on. As a result, I saw almost almost every major release rated PG and below. ‘What’s Up, Doc?’ remains one of my all-time favorite movies and I clearly remember my mother taking me when I was barely five years old and hadn’t even started school yet. Reliving this decade of film is the best birthday gift ever! Thanks, guys! ❤️

First time commenter here, and Katey Rich asking for an In & Out exceptions episode is what drove me here. Please, let’s make this happen!!
