Shout out to The Cowboys! A movie my father absolutely loved and watched with me many times in my childhood. He credited it with inspiring his frequent use of the phrase “we’re burning daylight!”

I highly recommend reading the book! The movie is a good adaption, but there's a lot of humor and nuance in the novel that the film can't quite match. So far everyone that I've suggested it to has loved it. So many Jake Gyllenhaal movies that I was unaware of... I feel like 2015/2016 I must have lived under a rock. He seems goofy now... like he's just coasting into movies like Road House.

As soon as I realized we were talking about a Western, I was just waiting for Chris to mention Logan, venom dripping from his fangs. Logan is great; you two are wrong. The end. I have a different relationship with Westerns vis a vis my father than you two. As in many things, my father and I were both the same and totally different. We both loved old movies: My Dad's favorite genres were Westerns and war movies, and his absolute favorite actor was John Wayne. I, on the other hand, watched Funny Face and Death on the Nile. I hated Westerns because my father was always watching them, and they didn't appeal to me. I think I resented them hogging the TV or something. But adulthood and my dad's passing have shown that, actually, Westerns can be fine. They're not all for me, but I can enjoy them. And I've found I especially go for sci-fi Westerns: your Logans, your Fireflys, your The Mandalorians. Finally, "The fish were gay" is another iconic line from Chris.

So happy you did this one. My experience is like Joe's in that this fell into a memory hole shortly after seeing it. But listening to this reminded me how much I liked it and liked it enough that I should remember it better and will definitely see it again soon. My little experiences with fair use makes me think the Ren/Tradition drop is safe. Your back and forth over the fish was exactly the mood lift I needed on a drive home last night.
