When James Garner was looking through the photo album, I was surprised I didn't see Kate Winslet flying a plane or riding a horse on the beach.

SO glad we're past the 'The Notebook is not romantic he blackmails her by hanging off the Ferris wheel!' discourse. Like, sure but... it's hot.

Thank you Chris for speaking your truth and setting us free (The Fall Guy sucked)

Great episode! I’m just quickly popping in from the universe where Britney Spears did The Notebook to say that her Oscar-winning turn in Birdman was great and I can’t wait for Tom Cruise to direct Iñárritu to his first acting nomination where he plays Tom Cruise’s snagletooth.

Rachel McAdams is subperb in Mary Jane! She’d get my vote for the Tony

Speaking of harsh reviews, I have to cite Jesse Green’s first blow to The Notebook on Broadway: ‘Romantic musicals are as personal as romance itself. What makes you sigh and weep may leave the person next to you bored and stony. At “The Notebook,” I was the person next to you.’ 👀

Rob Watson

Not a Never Talk To Strangers reference within 6 minutes 😂

Mandy Lesseig

Thank you for including the Joan Allen clip 💜 As someone from the south, no one has ever captured me 2 Margheritas in trying to get my friend to see the light about a deadbeat boyfriend more than that scene.

Just here to say I agree that Rachel McAdams is hilarious in The Hot Chick, a movie that 14 year old me thought was very funny and watched many times.

Chauncey Telese

I know it's not a movie that's remembered fondly but I'm surprised they didn't mention McAdams and Owen Wilson reuniting in Midnight in Paris.

+1 on the 'PVOD'/streaming likely means near flops like Challengers and Fall Guy likely make their money back. Easier for studios to claim poor whenever needed.

Great episode, but I have to defend my tribe and push back on Joe’s Gen Z slander. We are a perfectly horny generation imo. It’s just that, like with any population, all the most annoying people are the ones that have Twitter accounts.

Murphy's Romance is definitely worthy of a Movies for Grown-Ups award had they existed in 1985. It is a touching romance and both Garner and Field are great and have sexy chemistry. Another movie that makes me think fondly of my mom. She had a VHS copy :)

Raise your hand if the first place you ever saw Ryan Gosling was Breaker High 🙋🏽‍♀️

Not me yelling 'Abombination!' like Charlotte Rampling in Dune 2 after the known for on Tom Cruise's iMDB profile. Also Ann Reid is in a Doctor Who episode where she plays an alien (no outfit/effects, just herself) who sucks blood from people out of paper straws. That's how I'll always think of her.

Sean O'Neil

This stars Ryan Gosling’s old nose. Also, pretty sure Gena Rowlands was campaigned as lead for Unhook The Stars - a film that features Moira Kelly as her daughter and Marisa Tomei as her “surrogate” daughter.

Hannah Basile

I appreciated Joe defending the honor of the REAL OG Notebook stans who are not faith-based moms but 12 year olds watching it in their basement on DVD and sobbing! Putting “If you’re a bird, I’m a bird” as your AIM away message was a right of passage!

Apparently Universal is the one that has the development deal with Sparks right now. His three most recent books are all in development there, so Joe can have more Nicholas Sparks movies coming out to comfort him. My fear with It Ends with Us coming out this summer is that Colleen Hoover is going to become the new Nicholas Sparks and my head might explode then.

How are y'all going to mention that Rachel McAdams is nominated for a Tony this year and not mention that she's nominated in the same season as the debut of The Notebook musical?

Emily Sabo

Loved the episode! And watching, I think there’s a real Joan Allen—Gena Rowlands physical resemblance

Priyanka

in light of the news that gena rowlands has alzheimer's this movie takes on a whole different energy :(

If we’re still using theatrical box office as any metric then they need to release VOD numbers too. It can’t just be “whoa, turns out NORTHMAN made its bank back!” (which: I’m always happy when Eggers goes into profit). One healthy thing that came out of COVID is a resetting of opening weekend expectations. I’d be more than happy with zero box office reporting and we just focus on the movies, but that ship sailed while playing “I’m Coming Out” when it was a hit.
