Hello, our little tortilla deliciosas!! Take it away with your thoughts on our episode on The Menu!

Comments

Cyrano

Just FYI, this thread has appeared before the actual episode, at least in the two podcast players I checked.

Benji Black

🤫 The Menu actually about filmmaking.

JoeBrk

This episode isn’t showing up yet in my Apple Podcasts feed.

Mac

Posting this before the episode is cruel

Aaron Pinkston

Came to see if it was only me, but it seems like the episode has posted to the pod catchers yet. At least I'm not special.

Jessy Wheeler

Still not showing up in Apple Podcasts

Jan Jensen

Where is the episode? Don't see it on spotify

Keegon

I feel like Hong Chau is hovering over me as I refresh my podcast feed saying, “these are new episodes” as nothing new pops up

Sarah Lang

I usually try to watch the movie before the episode it I’m also a scaredy-cat. Thanks to Joe and Chris and the Garys for answering- is it very gross? Mildly gross? Scary or just ridiculous? Thank you again!

Jenny Maurer

It chapter 2 had a good cast but no substance to give ‘em except for the chemistry between bill hader and the dude who played Eddie

PJ Gaughan

The rant about EMP makes me think of the Magnatron plot thread in Oceans 13 😂

J Kyle Wilsor

NOT 🎶THE PONY KICKED HERRR…HEEERRE🎶

Aimee Fitzgerald

Ok you caught me and I had to sign up for the Patreon to voice this dissent: the rich guy and Judith Light are punished (in horror movie logic, not logic of what characters should know) because he hired Margot to roleplay as his daughter. It's implied that he sexually abused his daughter, and his wife didn't stop it (she specifically mentions Margot looks like their daughter, and the daughter having something like a "far away look in her eyes")

Rob Watson

This is the pan the movie deserved when it came out. Critics were shockingly easy on it.

Ethan McElhinny

I lost it when Joe said, “30 seconds” in the 60 second description and realized Chris was still setting up the first ten minutes of the movie. I remember liking this, but it is juggling like 4 or 5 too many threads.

first movie ATJ has ever been bad in

Robert Anton

I’m just not sure if we’re supposed to be rooting for Fiennes in a giddy, ridiculous way or rooting against him because what he’s doing, regardless of everyone’s offenses, is appalling. At times I find myself thinking maybe the film wants to challenge us with the idea that eating the rich sounds fun but might actually be a nasty business. And we’re supposed to feel conflicted. But I’m not convinced it gets there. It feels like this should be helmed by a European provocateur, a Lanthimos or Von Trier or Ducournau.

Laura

You make a comment about ATJ about ‘where we’re supposed to be with her’ and I find that issue with her as an actress, that critics love her but she always feels like a character to me. It might be that she’s so unusual looking, if we were in public I’d just be staring (and admiring). I can’t comprehend her as the normal character she’s playing.

Mac

White Lotus (both seasons imo) is the slam dunk of the post-Parasite Eat the Rich genre

Chauncey Telese

You both would absolutely LOVE the chucky series.

Chrissy

I know Beach Rats is a divisive film, but I just love Hittman’s two other works It Felt Like Love and Never Rarely Sometimes Always and the cinéma-vérité-ness of them all

James Sykora

Fun facts about the movie star character John Leguizamo plays: the filmmakers originally wanted Daniel Radcliffe to play a fictionalized version of himself, and the bad movie of his they keep referring to was, in the original script, Victor Frankenstein. Leguizamo based his performance on notorious asshole and washed-up action star Steven Seagal, his costar in Executive Decision.

My biggest issue with Anya in this is that she’s just so wildly miscast - she always has such crazy aristocratic bone structure/energy to me, which is a bit of a problem when she’s supposed to be your one real down-to-earth character.

Brandon Skidmore

Joe, taking your lead I am doing a horror movie a day for October and while it’s definitely celebrating the season, my mental health may be unwell.

Great ep! So many thoughts: - Crazy credits - I recently encountered a film called 'Arthur's Whiskey' on a plane that has Diane Keaton, Patricia Hodge AND Lulu (of 'Man with the Golden Gun'/'Shout' fame) which I cannot wrap my head around. It sounds like some kind of tax write-off - Hallowatching! Both Child's Play and Bride of Chucky were sensational. The montage of Tiffany having a glow-up to Blondie's 'Call Me' before putting on a 'Tiff' gold necklace is gay excellence. The children NEED to be educated on this. My other find was The Baby, a demented Ruth Roman vehicle where she plays the matriarch of a sinister family with an adult baby, locked in a battle-to-the-death with Anjanette Comer, who plays a rich social worker trying to rehabilitate the baby. One of the best/ darkest twist endings I've seen for years! Also Prince of Darkness rules! Victor Wong is incredible! On the more serious side, Haxan (1922) was also great. - Hard agree on Kidman doing too many TV series that nobody (?) watches. We need a repeat of her auteur imperial era (Eyes Wide Shut/ Dogville/ Birth/ Beguiled/ Killing of a Sacred Deer). Babygirl has FOUR TV shows on the docket, and has been starring and exec producing even more shows that do not exist including something called "Expats". What in the Keith Urban! - Agree with Chris that Furiosa rules! It feels more in the Three Thousand Years of Longing mode for George Miller with a more episodic, mythic quality. When is Tom Burke ever bad?

Michelle Brosius

The Night Agent is great! It's a total binge-watch, and I'm not usually a binge-watcher. Hong Chau is terrific. So glad it is coming back!

Clare

Anyone know who Chris’s nemesis in It: Chapter One is?

Kara Hogan

Joe I too enjoyed The Goonies and watched it several times as a kid. Haven’t seen it in a decade at least so can’t speak to its actual quality, but many fond memories from childhood!

Brandon Skidmore

Was listening to this in my garage sans headphones and my 13 year old daughter walked in as Chris yelled “Give us cannibalism!!” And since she’s a such a little weirdo that was all she needed to become a Gary for life.

Jennifer (Madame) Webb

Chris, you have to come back to Bake Off! So far the challenges have been legit, the contestants might be some of the best they’ve ever had, there is indeed a Diva we love, as well as a very handsome young man.

Sarah Lang

Omg the Vinny Thomas pride pigeon sound drop.
