It's time to discuss another THR Actress Roundtable! (When isn't it time to discuss an actress roundtable?) And, as selected by you all, we're talking 2018 with Glenn Close, Lady Gaga, Kathryn Hahn, Nicole Kidman, Regina King, and Rachel Weisz!! Topics include the touchy feely vibes between Weisz and Hahn, the first unleashing of Gaga talking "Stella Adler Meisner Circle in the Square" etc., and our predictions for who might appear on this year's THR roundtable!

On the Patreon awards check-in episode you made a bet to predict one Oscar nomination!

The forgetting of Stepford Wives with Glenn & Nicole makes absolute sense

Totally agree with Joe on his picks of Demi Moore & Mikey Madison for the next roundtable. I have a sneaking suspicion that they'll also try to get Zendaya (even if she isn't in the conversation for Challengers, having her on will get those clicks). My secret hope, though, is that if they get Demi Moore they'll pull a stunt and also get Margaret Qualley (for The Substance and Kinds of Kindness).

When Joe says the dynamic between Rachel Weisz and Kathryn Hahn is “so incredibly clear” I did initially hear it as “so incredibly queer.”

Stephanie Radcliffe

For all of the deserved flack Ted Lasso got, it did deliver the best joke ever about Rachel Weisz. Ted: "You're willing to miss a puppet show by Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz? 'Cause that sounds like a lot of fun. Rebecca: Don't get me wrong, they are incredible. But all I really want to see those two do together is fuck."

My favorite line was definitely Nicole's "I can't miss bedtime, that makes me cry. I don't wanna do that."

Wow, shoutout to PENELOPE! Not inaccurate. Great character, too.

I think my prediction for the roundtable would be: Demi Moore Mikey Madison Cynthia Erivo (my longshot pick) Isabella Rosselini Zoe Saldana Saoirse Ronan

Harriet Ware

Tilda did the LA times roundtable in 2014 for Snowpiercer! It’s a good one with Emma Stone, Laura Dern and Patricia Arquette

Keegon

Glenn Close was actually in Machete with Lady Gaga. Glenn played Machete.

Frank McCormick

"Of course I remember Genius!" OF COURSE! I have no idea how they identify, but Rachel Weisz and Daniel Craig have the biggest swinger "We're open to EVERYone and ANYthing!" energy it is possible to have. Those two fuck.

Eep

Didn't you guys make a bet on whether or not Coppola would be nominated for Best Director this year

Myles McHale

I was screaming “THE STEPFORD WIVES!!!” My kingdom for a real half hour to 45 minutes of Glenn and Nicole just going OFF on what happened on that set!

Rob

Yeah, for me there’s no chance Demi isn’t in the Roundtable. She’s in the conversation (I think she’ll ultimately miss in a crowded year, unfortunately), she has the narrative, she’s a goddamned MOVIE STAR, she has things to say… but the capper is her movie is so pointedly about how the industry treats women; she’s a no brainer.

Loved this episode! Can't wait to see how close your predictions are to the final roundtable. Please do a follow up! Also, it's pronounced PE-rez, not Pe-REZ like almost everyone is calling it. 😢

Joe & Chris - if you were sitting in Kathryn Hahn’s chair, who’s the male and female celebrity who would make you melt that way?

Michelle M

June Squibb would be an excellent roundtable guest. I could also see this being the year you invite Aubrey Plaza (and maybe those two are the seat pairing as well).

re: the 2022 best actress roundtable, i’m reminded of a charming moment where danielle deadwyler, claire foy, and jennifer lawrence all get hyped when someone mentions love is blind 🤭

Zoë Murrie

Sounding off on the bet y’all made for Rhys Ifans getting an Oscar nomination (win?) can’t remember what year you said. 2026?
