The Academy has announced the shortlists for ten categories (including the three shorts categories), so naturally we are here to talk about it!

I need to listen to the thing, I'm looking over the lists now, but...people, is it just me or is the Original Score shortlist fairly odd? ALIEN: ROMULUS (didn't see it, haven't heard a soul talk about the score)? BLINK TWICE (did see it, don't remember anything of the score)? I was kinda tickled by the inclusion of Elfman for BEETLEJUICE BEETLEJUICE, but it's good Elfman, not great Elfman (...I still like it far more than everyone else's favorite, CHALLENGERS [flees the scene and the tomatoes being hurled my way]).

The Academy would publish the eligible Songs/Scores in like pre-2020, but since they started including the categories in the shortlist announcement they stopped publishing the full list. I think since then Variety has been obtaining/reporting it.

I don’t know country music but I do listen to Who Weekly and they have informed me that Lainey Wilson is in fact a big deal in that world

Regarding the Mufasa song, they actually had a FYC campaign for the Brother song that I kept seeing pop up online. This is just the Academy choosing to shortlist a different song instead of Disney submitting something else

The Twisters soundtrack rules top to bottom but Luke Combs should be nominated here not Lainey Wilson. I like Lainey but the Luke Combs song is the best and fits into the movie better. Also yes, Lainey Wilson is a huge country star and Shane Mac-A-Nally (spelled phonetically for Chris) is legendary songwriter in country music. He writes a lot of Kenny Chesney’s songs. If y’all need any more info on country music (the best genre of music) don’t hesitate to ask.

Don’t watch Deadpool x Wolverine, y’all. Even if it’s nominated. Don’t do that to yourselves. It’s so, SO shitty. And I liked Marvel before, mostly, kind of! But this one is just beyond the pale. Do not spend one second of your wild and precious lives watching this three hour Super Bowl ad.
