The way I so thought it would be Bones and All haha. I’ve seen this movie so I’m very excited to fire up this episode and listen to the insights on orcas, standing on frozen bodies of water, Katy Perry, etc.

Also, some people actually like "Emilia Perez." Perhaps you could engage with what people might like rather than do nothing but criticize the people who respond differently to it than you do? Not everyone was just stupidly duped by Netflix.

I’d say maybe you could just call Emila Perez tone deaf rather than putting it On par with a war crime or what not

I’ve been to the Marineland in Toronto, I was a kid at the time and just psyched to see whales. Looking back though I think it was probably more of a grim place than I realized.

Unfortunately did not like this movie. I don't think Marion does it for me. I think Joe u are 100% on the money that Emilia Perez's biggest sin is that it's boring. Also I say this as a Selena Gomez stan but she is noottttt good lol. Her karaoke song is the only song I liked tho so I guess that worked out.

Braden Poapst

I willingly watched Emilia Pérez twice because I felt like I was very unfair and dismissive of it the first time, only to be reminded upon rewatch how painfully boring it is. Saldaña mostly innocent at least.

Never Really Over is 1000% the best track of Mizz Perry’s oeuvre

I really love the podcast, and I appreciate all the work you put into it. Joe, I wanted to mention something that’s been bothering me—I’ve noticed you often call things ‘demented.’ I know you probably don’t mean any harm, but that word can be really upsetting for some people, including me. I hope you’ll consider finding a different way to express those ideas. Thanks for listening, and for all you do!

Kiki’s Known For has apparently changed since the end of November!

Just want to wish Joe, Chris, and all my fellow Garys a Happy New Year! 2024... wasn't the best year at large and, alas, for you two, but I just want to say how much I appreciate you two still putting out regular, high-quality episodes consistently. And the burst of year-end episodes is especially impressive, considering I think Chris has been ill for approximately six months by now. But, seriously, we love you, and thank you for a wonderful listen!

Stephanie Radcliffe

Bless you for mentioning "For a Good Time Call" and "Take This Waltz". Both such good, sexy, touching movies!

To Joe's point about wanting to see Cotillard do comedy I remember circa DKR she was on the daily show and declared Will Ferrell as her God.

Thank you for clarifying your positions on Emilia Perez. There are three basic concerns you have about the film. 1. The actual content of the film itself. 2. The actual discourse of the film itself 3. The imagined and possible discourse currently living rent-free in Joe's head but very easily and credibly could erupt into a backlash at any second. Having not yet seen the film, I feel it's crucial to bring to light another aspect that seems to have been overlooked in this discussion - Netflix's deplorable track record in Trans Representation and their historical hostility towards Trans employees under Ted Sarandos. It's my firm belief that if this were any other distributor, we wouldn't be scrutinizing Emilia Perez's representation to this extent. However, in the wake of 4 Dave Chapelle specials, the Rogan special from earlier this year, and the internal culture fallout from 2021's The Closer, it's impossible for me to divorce the narrative of Emilia Perez as a serious Oscar contender from Netflix's role in fueling the flames of Transmisogyny that now define our current moment. The fact that the platform, particularly Sarandos, has been financially rewarded and lauded by other award bodies for these specials only serves to exonerate them from any responsibility in the eyes of Hollywood. The irony is, due to the deteriorating representation and discourse, Netflix now has a Crash-like opportunity to claim to be progressive while actually being, in the words of GLAAD, "retrograde." With the record-tying 15 shortlist mentions at BAFTA (an organization whose relationship with gender is dubious at best), the most concerning aspect of this discourse is that it's bound to shift focus away from the film itself. As much as it's disheartening to hear Joe's defensive responses to perceived future backlash, I fear that due to the power dynamics at play, the dire state of trans discourse, and the chaos of this year's race, these ghosts could very well materialize. However, I'm not convinced that there are enough people in AMPAS who are truly committed to trans representation to give this controversy any significant longevity. It wouldn't even surprise me if Emelia Perez led the nominations and Gascon was overlooked. I wonder if it could even make a serious bid for a Best Picture win or sweep. Still, even if it's not intentionally offensive, its performativity on the Netflix Platform requires us to view the film's impact through the service's previous sins.

So they both definitely voted for Le Pen, right? Matthais Schoenaerts, unbelievably hot in this.
