I haven’t listened yet but I’m pre-excited! I went through my Brad Pitt phase in the 6th grade and my bestie and I rented as many of his movies as we could from the local video store and the library. We did a The Devil’s Own/Seven Years in Tibet double feature. Perfect for 11 year old girls. Also have to share that this film is how I first heard of the IRA and they are thus forever connected in my mind.

The notification on the front screen of my phone just showed up as "The Devil's...", so for a second I got excited about the prospect of them covering The Devil's Advocate.

We keep saying Billy Burke and in my head I only see Glinda trilling around doing everything Treat Williams does

Also, all the fake Irishness has me neeeeeding a Dancing St Lughnasa ep

Pennies From Heaven is AMAZING, as is the Bob Hoskins-starring original. I dunno if there’s an argument for PFH having had Oscar buzz, but I am always down to hear a conversation about it!

On the McElhone tip - and "The McElhone Tip" is a great paranoid thriller in its own right - I'll say, I've really liked and had some problems with 𝐶𝑎𝑙𝑖𝑓𝑜𝑟𝑛𝑖𝑐𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛, it's not a full-on "watch this great show," but Natascha McElhone is wonderful and 𝑙𝑢𝑚𝑖𝑛𝑜𝑢𝑠 on it.

The one fun fact I know about Pakula - his wife, Hannah (who is still alive) is the aunt of Jennie Livingston (director of Paris is Burning). Jennie is my dad’s first cousin, so I say I’m related to her and pakula. Not true, but I like to believe it regardless!

1. I had this movie on VHS when I was a kid, which seemed normal at the time but is very funny in retrospect. The 90s! 2. Re: bad 90s Irish accents, I feel like Tommy Lee Jones in Blown Away is just as bad if not worse than the ones mentioned here. 3. Listening to them play the iMDB game right now and I just got really sad when Chris said “David Lynch is still alive” 😞

Begosh and begorrah! Lena Olin and Julia Ormonde mentions back-to-back without a reference to the Julia Ormonde Incident? I'm personally affronted.

This episode has just reinforced my long-standing suspicion that I was the only person who watched Now & Again. (It was a good show!)

Joe MUST report back after watching The Electric Horseman! I am keeping a running list of movies our beloved hosts say “I should watch…” This and Pennies From Heaven just shot to the top of the list.

I highly recommend the book Say Nothing over the show (which isn't bad but not as comprehensive). It also clarifies America's involvement in the Troubles (attempted peace agreement summits, Boston College as the keeper of testimony and confessional tapes by some of the IRA members) which might help understand this movie a little more. I know I saw The Devil's Own way, way back. It was not memorable, lol.

God love her but an actor on the level of Margaret Colin just breaks the IMDb game.

"David Lynch is still alive" -- A DAGGER :(

Hearing that Ruben Blades's last name is properly pronounced as only one syllable is the most shocked I have ever been by this podcast. I truly had no idea.

I love when Joe goes deep on the Irish Catholic Buffalo because I had a good friend in college who grew up very Irish Catholic in Buffalo in the 90's and 00's. He would tell me stories of things like sneaking out of Irish Dancing class to go listen to the old men at the bar at the Irish Center and try to get them to buy him a beer. And I would have to ask him if he grew up in the 60's.

Bought the Ed Zwick book from the mentón on this episode. Loving it so far!
