What did you all think of Mickey 17 this weekend? Huge thanks again to Bilge Ebiri for joining us to discuss director Bong!

Comments

Erin Shaw

Literally jumped in excitement when I saw this week’s 👀

Is the element that Mickey 17 is missing Tilda Swinton? Between this and Okja, I feel like she's been the English language actor who gets Bong's style the most.

I liked most of it, good premise, good acting, especially loved the cute aliens, I want a plush one. But Ruffalo n Colette, gah. Not just the hammery but their plot points were so clunky and predictable. He's going to talk about his profile heere and she's going to screech about her rug theere and clonk clonk.

What’s the first disc everyone (or at least everyone old enough) rented from Netflix? Mine was Gerry.

Rob

Er… what’s “day and date”?

Julie

This was a great episode and Bilge was a great guest. The way y'all talked about cinema in NYC pre covid made my heart ache with nostalgia. Thank you for this!

IMDB Game update: Mickey 17 has already supplanted I Wanna Dance With Somebody from Ackie's Known For!

With much respect to "Memories of Murder" as Chris mentions, my favorite non-"Parasite" Bong Joon Ho film has to be "Mother"

1:45 My ‘Gone Girl’ Supporting Performance is Casey Wilson. Suburbia beauty!!

I'm glad that you guys discussed Song Kang-ho in this episode. I love seeing him in Bong Joon-ho movies, and he's doing something different but equally effective in each of them. He really deserved an Oscar nomination for Parasite.

The comments section of a particular episode may not be the place for this, but...I'm listening to the newest episode of "Threedom" - the comedy podcast with Scott Aukerman, Paul F. Tompkins, and Lauren Lapkus, another weekly favorite o' mine - and their game for this one (they have a "Threeture" every ep.) is the "Known For," they're guessing IMDb "Known Fors." The segment includes a note about the "Known For" that I did not know. I'm busting, Jerry, I'm busting!

Bilge and I should use our influence and get Mike to add Chris and Joe as Skandies voters. After all, the AVB picked Challengers as #2 film of 2024!

No Way

Bong Joonho’s come full circle with his English language movies going to theaters and then VOD after 3 weeks

Weird how they did an entire episode about snowpiercer without once mentioning the tv series adaptation. Like, I didn’t care for the tv show but it did exist. Wild to just not mention it at all.
