Oh, I'm so excited! Whenever there's a think piece complaining about how no one makes good movies with sex in them anymore, I just want to scream because Sarah Polley made one and everyone ignored it! Also, the real Scrambler ride is in a ramshackle shed in an ancient amusement park on the Toronto Islands. Pure movie magic to make it look that gorgeous.

Aaaah! The best movie of the new Millennium. I love it so much. I actually intended on sending in a game of alter egos for you based on the amazing, random choices for Best Ensemble that the San Diego Film Critics have given. Take a peek.

I had a Social Psychology professor who’d conducted a study with her colleagues: They took photos of individuals in married couples and had subjects rate each by attractiveness from 0 to 10. When they matched them back up, they found that, in general, individuals perceived as 9s had married other 9s. Individuals perceived as 3s had married other 3s. So while I can’t defend every/any critic who commented on Rogan’s looks, this is how we segregate ourselves IRL. Also, Williams and Mike Faist were just announced for an off-Broadway run of Anna Christie this winter.

Wonderful movie, and a really great episode. I also second Chris's recommendation of RUN TOWARDS THE DANGER– an incredible memoir, and I find it fascinating to pair with WOMEN TALKING, not least because they came out in the same year and could also very well have swapped titles. Also, Chris and Joe are so right about Judith Ivey being the MVP of WOMEN TALKING.

As someone who started high school (located at the border of Ohio and Michigan) in 1979, I was an original "Freaks and Geeks" person. We even called the stoners "freaks". I was sure someone from my HS must have been behind this show, because it was so close to my experiences. (I also understand that I am old.)

I was about to go, "Not to bring the room down but isn't Sarah Polley's next movie supposed to be the BAMBI remake?" but then, my search results included lines "Sarah Polley no longer attached to live action BAMBI," and...lookit, I want filmmakers I respect, especially people like Polley who haven't been (able to be) prolific, to make money, be successful - but eeeeeverytime I hear about a good filmmaker being onboard another Disney remake I get that sinking-just-a-little feeling that most film people get with Marvel movies. Anyway, I look forward to Sarah Polley making more stuff and more stuff as captivating and rich as, say, STORIES WE TELL. ETA: Listening to the IMDb game, I myself would have been terrible with Judith Ivey because I'd have mixed her up with DANA Ivey constantly, I'm so ADDAMS-addled.

can’t believe they didn’t get into the most important aspect of this movie: the Feist cover of Leonard Cohen’s ‘Closing Time’ which doesn’t seem to exist anywhere but this movie got lucky with this Sound Cloud link which seemingly is just recorded while the movie plays in the background but like come on https://on.soundcloud.com/UKVqtj2wptJd0xQfJq

Joe: “…talk or not talk…” Me: (he’s going to follow up with soup and snow peas). Y’all never disappoint.

i was JUST thinking about magnolia pictures’ bizarre early 2010s release strategy, where they’d put a film on demand a month BEFORE it hit theaters. i remember them doing that with this, but also melancholia and drinking buddies…even at the time i remember thinking it was strange…

justice for étoile! i’m so mad it was cancelled…it’s not perfect but luke kirby’s 🔥 and the palladino dialogue/world-building charmed me

Slings and Arrows! Starring my beloved, Paul Gross of Due South fame!! One of my first TV boyfriends *dreamy, nostalgic sigh*

Kara Hogan

Huge news that Michelle Williams WILL be back on stage in the near future!

Mandy Lesseig

As an OG Slings and Arrow-head, not only was Luke Kirby in the first season but Sarah Polley joined the third season AND her dad was in the ensemble the whole run 😁

LM

My favorite Williams performance sans Wendy and Lucy.

Scoop for the Garys! Just saw a screening of "Away from Her" as part of TIFF's 50th anniversary with a Q&A with Sarah Polley afterwards. She's currently writing on season 2 of "The Studio" and trying to get two movies off the ground. She described them both as "very sad": one is political and the other is an adaptation of a classic book with an actor she's very excited about, but that's all she could say. So hopefully more Sarah Polley movies soon!
