Some fun housekeeping ahead of next month's Superlatives:

Yes, the Garys' Best Picture ballot is coming soon! This year, we're going to wait to post a ballot until after the MLK holiday weekend since there are still quite a number of expanding films and Garys often ask for more time. This may result in a shorter window for your final ballots once the top 10 is revealed, however.

We're adding a Gary-selected category this year! We wanted a way to include you all in the Superlatives, so we are letting you CHOOSE YOUR OWN CATEGORY! This is highly informal and can be... whatever you want! In the comments below this post, offer up a suggestion for a category you would like to see Joe and Chris include in this year's Superlatives. The comment with the MOST LIKES (on the date of episode recording) will be an official category on the Superlatives. A few rules: 1) it must be a film-related or film-adjacent category 2) it must be entirely Gary-made and not come from the precursor season (i.e. something we might already have a category for).

Happy New Year, Garys, and thank you all so much for your support in 2025!

The Sentimental Value - a perceived 'career' Oscar you'd be okay with someone receiving this year (also known as the RDJ, the JLC, the Oldman...aka for this year I'd be happy for a career narrative to carry Ethan Hawke to a Best Actor win, tho I think the Blue Moon performance is also strong enough on its own!)

Joseph Israel

In honor of No Other Choice, Pulp of the Year should be included. Interpret however you’d like.

America’s Next Top Best Friend. Lots of people came here to win, but it’s finally time to honor those who came here to make friends. Press junket besties? This does not need to be a category, but I am curious: Are there ever people or films nominated that you hands down just don't want to win? For whatever reason, the choice, the person, something about the art, or what it represents just bothers you, and you don't want to see it/them awarded, against all the odds? (Mine might be Sean Penn)

Tad Hopp

The “Glenn Close deserves better” award to a multiple nominated performer who once again will not win this year or possibly ever.

Carrie Williams

Best interaction only by phone. Bridget Everett killed at this in Wake Up Dead Man. Such a crucial scene, it wrecked me and that scene actually changed my feelings about the whole movie.
