Hello Patreon Garys! We've promised an Exception episode chosen by you and it's coming this October! We've decided on ten all-killer-no-filler options for you to choose from over the next week. Sound off in the comments if you want to try to sway your fellow listeners to your side, but you have until 9/1 to make your vote!

Here are your options for the first Listeners' Choice Exception episode:

Comments

Liz Norris

So difficult. My first instinct was American President, but I feel like we've heard Chris and Joe talk about that a lot, especially recently. So I went with Contact, because I'm not sure I even know both of their opinions. I would love to hear Lovely Bones get torn to shreds, though.

AJ Eccles

As lovely as the bones are, j’adore Contact.

Tara Ariano

Sincerely thought "Showman" would be running away with this!

Joshua S

Anyone who does not vote for The American President deserves a tomb in the middle of their house. Sydney Ellen Wade <3

James Brotheridge

Mary Queen of Scots is spiritually such a This Had Oscar Buzz movie that it needs an Exceptions ep

HelenB

This is really hard!! The Lovely Bones would yield a lot of good discussion I think and we're not getting a Peter Jackson convo any other way. Plus the Tucci nomination, more young Saoirse Ronan, the Mark Walhberg of it all! I think I've talked myself into going for it.

Jennifer (Madame) Webb

This is so tough! I love Interview with the Vampire, and Charlie Wilson's War is just the kind of mediocrity that fascinates me, but I had to go with The American President.

Adam Grosswirth

Tied for 2nd: Showman or Across the Universe but only if I get to guest. :)

John Kinsella

I chose violence AKA the Lovely Bones.

Oliver Sava

I have a tomb in the middle of my vote!!!

Katy Cummings

I would like to make a pitch for Eurovision: The Story of Fire Saga to be an exceptions episode. I know Joe and Chris would love the opportunity to discuss Eurovision generally, plus more Dan Stevens (I think he should’ve been nómina for this and I’m not ashamed to say it) and how it’s a crime this movie didn’t win best song!

The Reading Bee

Still high off of Barbie, so I need to hear y’all’s take on Ryan Gosling departing from the Lovely Bones.

Vivienne Fritz

Are there ever enough jodie foster side conversations? No there are not.

Joel DeJong

I demand that Chris and Joe address the insanity that is what Bono and Eddie Izzard are doing in Across the Universe.

Brian Forte

This list >>>>> Went with Across the Universe for so many reasons, but in no small part because Jim Sturgess belongs in his own version of the Garrett Hedlund/Charlie Hunnam facial blindness game.

Cliff Pantone

They should’ve sent a poll-et.

Tripp Burton

Look, I want a Lovely Bones episode as much as anyone. But the truth of the matter is that Joe and Chris have finally given us a gift of bonus episodes and a Patreon, the least we can do is let them chat about a film they love: The American President. Let the torture come after that, when we demand deep dives into some real trash!

PromisingYoungVermonter

Would chose Saving Mr Banks and Charlie Wilson’s War for the shear number of ACTORS, but I cannot deny that the Lovely Bones would be a THOB classic.

Devin Fuller

The people want their prestige trash! The loveliest of bones!!

Taylor Cole

I'm assuming that the only reason Australia isn't on this list is because there's already an Australia episode with Katey Rich on the books.

Taylor Cole

But also, Lovely Bones would require a lot of Bones-and-all Scottish accenting of "THE BONES," so I'm also deeply in favor of that.

Benjamin Farha

So many fantastic options…but we need to build the tomb.

Stephanie Radcliffe

The Garys demand a deep dive on the character actors in The American President (Anna Deavere Smith! David Paymer! John Mahoney!)

Caitlin Sewell

Um no CAROL?? Or will that be a special Christmas exceptions?

Joy Novak

Wow, I can't believe no one else in the comments thinks Interview with the Vampire is an obvious choice - or as obvious you can be with so many great options. Talking about Brad and Tom at peak 90s stardom, baby KiKi, horribly miscast Antonio Banderas and several MTV movie awards. Plus I'll vote for any option that may lead to a discussion of the glorious AMC show.

Keegon

I just need a bloomin onion and a solid thirty minutes on Rachel Griffiths as outback steakhouse Mary Poppins

Peter Smith

Mr. Banks is in trouble. Please save him!

Jack McGee

I genuinely stopped and thought “haven’t they done half of these?” just because you talk about them so much hahahaha

aladsto

I’m voting for The lovely bones because it helped me win the Oscars sweepstakes with my friends: our tie breaker was coming up with a porn title based on any of the nominated films and I won with The lovely boner 😇

Chrissy

Interview with the Vampire would be perfect for October 🎃

Jessica A. Betts

I work with people who think that Aaron Sorkin is not at all problematic! This is why we need your take on The American President.

Amy Taylor

Need to talk Tucci! And Ryan Gosling's parting of ways for deciding to gain weight!

Voyager

Oh come on peeps, let's go with Interview With the Vampire. Perfect for October and it's a fun, campy movie.

J T

Can’t wait for Hail Caesar in the future!

Ruan Felipe

We're determined to put a tomb in the middle of your house!

ShoshPD

Come on, folks! The American President deserves!

Michelle Berman

Interview with the vampire is for Valentine’s Day. Not Halloween. Lol

David

The American President! Michael and Annette at the top of their form. Plus since Joe and Chris love this movie so much they’ll give us all free hugs if we choose it! Right guys? 😋

Matt Buechner

Contact, for the potential Katya clips alone

Audrey Z

I’m all in for The American President.

Akhil Akhil

Interview with the Vampire!

This Had Oscar Buzz

ONLY ~24HRS LEFT TO VOTE!! About 20% of you still have a vote left and [Ellie Goulding voice] ANYTHING COULD HAPPEN

Braeden Udy

Interview with the vampire is the gay shit we need joe and Chris discussing rn!!

James Sykora

Well I voted The American President but current frontrunner The Lovely Bones, a movie I cannot stand, will still generate a lot of interesting conversation.

Erin Hardy

The next poll has to have The Birdcage. I'm sure someone buzzed somewhere.

Philip

I think Revolutionary Road is a good pick for Exceptions...what does everybody think? Maybe no, because one of it's nominations was in Acting?
