We tallied all of your votes (thank you to all who submitted!) and the results are IN!! In the link above, you can now rank the Garys ten nominees for best film 2023 from most to least favorite. Once again, we are running this voting on a preferential ballot, just like the Oscars! Voting will be open until this Sunday 9PM EST!

The winner will be announced on the Superlatives excursion episode later this month, along with Chris and Joe's picks for award season oddity categories like Best Grownup Love Story. We will also hold out on revealing any vote data until that time, but we'll offer some fun stats in the discussion.

For now, get to voting! The Garys have selected as the ten best films of 2023:

Anatomy of a Fall

Asteroid City

Barbie

The Boy and the Heron

The Holdovers

Killers of the Flower Moon

May December

Oppenheimer

Past Lives

Poort Things

Files

THOB Superlatives Grolsch People's Choice Award - FINAL BALLOT

It's time for the Garys to select their best film of 2023!! The ten nominees have been chosen! Like the Academy, the winner will be decided by preferential ballot. Below, you will rank them from your most favorite to least favorite.

Most of what happens with Erika Alexander and Jeffery Wright in “American Fiction” should at least be in the conversation for Best Grownup Love Story…

Somewhere Frances Fisher is screaming because Origin didn't get nominated

My beloved “Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret.” forgotten again 😭

PLEASE fully break down the preferential ballet i.e. the order of the initial votes, which film is elimimated first, which films benefit etc etc If the Academy denies us this, at least Turbulent Brilliance could make amends!

Maybe next year the Best Picture ones not elegible, I was honestly hoping for a very different list from the Oscars, I think that’s more fun :)

Janine Liberty

I think you get ONE from the Best Picture list and the rest are alternates.

Cordelia Of The Seas

I love the presence of The Boy And The Heron here. Every best film nomination list needs a film with excess amounts of jam, butter, fireworks, and bird poop I say.

Joe Reid

I do think it's notable to see some dissatisfaction about too many Best Picture nominees in a list we all took part in creating. It is, not to pat myself on the back, exactly what I was talking about in the Class of 2023 episode, where once a group gets big enough, the consensus picks accumulate in the middle, and you end up with a list where even the voters are like "Well we could've been more adventurous than that." Fascinating -- I am fascinated!

This is a good list! I cannot tell you how bummed I would have been if Maestro had been on this list, and thank goodness it's not. I'm good with these Oscar Best Picture nominees plus upgrades.
