Could a kind Gary fill me in on the timestamp for the movie league roundup? I'm saving the rest of the episode until after I watch Annette, but I'd like to hear the final pre-Oscars MFL update.

I think that Baby Annette should introduce Annette Bening for Best Actress.

I gotcha fellow Gary! So the awards season update starts at about 30:10 and it ends basically at exactly the 49 minute mark. They also said that there will be another post-Oscars update! Enjoy Annette!! I just watched it last night and thought it was incredible! Probably the most unique musical I've ever seen.

Here to represent all the dorks who only know Sparks from that time they were on Gilmore Girls

Just here to say I really love this movie. Though it's not my number 1 of that year, it's probably the one I revisited most. 2021 was the year I "came back to film," in a personal way and Annette is irretrievably bound up in that. I appreciate J&C highlighting this crazy movie which I think many people may have missed in such a crazy time.

Here to echo that it is truly bonkers that Fishburne has THAT in his known for.

I'm surprised that nobody mentions the weird meta-narrative of: Leo Carax had a daughter with his partner Yekaterina Golubeva; Golubeva died 2011 with no cause of death released (some articles deem it a suicide), leaving him raising their daughter alone; then he makes this movie where a mercurial artist marries a performer, they have a daughter, and then the wife dies inadvertently at his hands, leaving him raising their daughter; he casts Marion Cotillard who looks just like Golubeva, and styles the Driver character to look like Carax as the movie goes on; and he casts their daughter as the movie daughter (!). (When it's not a puppet, of course.)

There really was something about the timing of ANNETTE's arrival. The Sparks doc was the one film we'd seen in a theater before the second wave of virus hit. That was our first inkling of it. When it showed up on our TV a couple months later it felt like a very generous gift. Speaking of gifts, Joe (and everyone involved), Cinematrix is my favorite thing (that makes me cuss out loud more often than not) and I thank a recent episode for gifting me a low percentage guess on one today. Lastly, I was reminded that Blank Check is what lead me to THOB and it's been the best gift that podcast has ever given.

I really loved this movie. The opening song was amazing, with the addition of the police car mic saying "do not start." Great stuff. Also, early modern European stories always signify the devil as dressed in green (like the Grimm fairy tales), which Adam Driver was cloaked in throughout the movie. The final duet between Driver and the daughter was heartbreaking and wonderful.

Baby Annette setlist (her version of the Eras tour after a triumphant return to music): - So May We Start (Annette's version) - Operatic rendition of Amy Grant's 'Baby Baby' - Firecracker ft Celeste - Superbowl medley - The Voice Within - Bridge Over Troubled Water - Does Your Mother Know (ft M3GAN) - 'I've Got No Strings' from Pinocchio (Annette's version) - So May We Start (encore) My brain is fully broken after watching this movie, but in a good way!

The real question to ask is: what do the Baby Annette stans call themselves?

Justice for Laurence Fishburne! What a hopeless known for. Even Hannibal or a John Wick makes more sense than Mystic River.
