- Firstly, how did I not clock that Gabriella was played by THE Jennifer Ehle aka THE Elizabeth Bennett of our time. - Secondly, I feel like the script has pretty much confirmed that we're doing the full vampire chronicles arc, which means we'll be getting The Queen of The Damned in s4 or s5. This pleases me very much, lol. - Thirdly, I also really appreciate you watching the post-show discussions. There is so much lore between the books, AMC's immortal universe, and even Anne Rice herself, that it would require a serious deep dive to get the full context of everything. The show does a great job , but there are many nuances that inevitably get dismissed for the sake of episodic timing.

The way lestat yearned for his mother to love him so desperately and she turned around and committed incest and abused him. She often is the one to lead conversations towards sex. I actually feel like he's not that into the sex with his mother, he just wants her love and the only way she will give it to him that way. (vom)

I was getting massive ‘the social network’ vibes from that table scene

Is it too diabolical if I say one could sing ‘hands off Gabriella?’

this show definitely has my brain working overtime, esp because it refuses to back down from very difficult topics and situations. i'm very curious where they are going to go with everything!! i'm enjoying lestat's narration more this episode than last, and i'll always adore every time louis is on screen (can't wait to see what happens next episode)

Oh yeah the accent was a horrible choice I wish she went slightly Brit transatlantic mets vague European rather than trying to do an authentic Italian accent since it feels jokey they could always use the fact that she's lived nearly 300 years. I think Sam's approach for a French-american accent works so much better and Armands french-brit approach is better too. Hopefully the next season AMC gives them the budget for a proper dialect coach

ooft there's so much going on this season, I agree with everything you said and am similarly a bit overwhelmed and unsure how to feel but I definitely think the show is just laying the groundwork in these first few eps and intentionally not diving too deep into any one aspect of lestat's character yet. I will say the incest plotline is super interesting and I'm not criticising the show for this at all bc I think it's a very valid artistic approach/depiction but just for my personal perspective it's kind of depressing how casually that relationship is being treated like... the level of abuse going on is SO crazy and I'm absolutely not saying the show needs to address that directly (bc ofc none of the characters involved have a true self awareness of how fucked up it is) but it's lowkey just upsetting to watch? i think especially bc there are a lot of other social taboos (queerness, interracial relationships, etc.) which are obviously not problematic at all but just perceived that way by society and they're kind of depicted in a similarly upfront/direct style throughout the show, but that's being done in a positive way? so I guess I'm just feeling a bit uncomfortable with how the incest is being framed so far. again not saying the show is doing anything wrong necessarily, bc it is just representing the relationship the way the characters themselves view it, but I'm uncomfortable and want the mum to just get tf away from lestat lol. One other interesting thought I had during this ep was about lestat's comment that "No vampire was born a vampire". It kind of reminded me of the Simone de Beauvoir quote that "One is not born, but rather becomes, a woman" - the process of becoming is ongoing and reinforced by repeated encounters with social constructions of gender. And I think it's interesting how vampirism is produced and perpetuated by repetition of traumatic encounters - from the literal violence of the initial bite, death and rebirth, but also from the inability to ever resolve your past wounds because you are arrested in the state you were transformed. Like the fact that Lestat remained in that toxic, abusive family environment until he was 30 which, as the actors commented, was already far too long, and now we see he and his mother's vampirism allowing them to still continue re-enacting their dynamic with each other hundreds of years later. So, much like how vampires must continue to engage with repeated acts of violence to sustain themselves through drinking blood, vampirism itself is to repeatedly re-produce your personal traumas. unlike humans who can grow and change with the natural seasons of life ('how people act' in their 20s vs 30s vs 40s etc), the passage of time is meaningless to a vampire and so they become trapped in this repetition of traumatising and traumatised acts. Idk that's a very underbaked meta so far but I'm interested to see where the rest of this season goes and how that theme might be developed or challenged!

Yeah Lestat is crashing and crashing hard.
