Hi guys,Looks like this will be the last dev update of October. Time sure flies! Before we get into the progress of the past week, I do want to get something off my chest (again).

Currently... the retention numbers are... extremely poor. I mentioned this in my last post, but we're at a lower number of paid members than what I was at after Chapter 5. Not only that, but since my last post, a lot of additional members have cancelled, leaving me in a very bad spot financially. I'll have to puzzle a bit with my finances, as I have animations to pay for and voice acting to pay for, but I'll see what I can do. The only thing on my mind right now is to create an incredible update that is the best one so far. From a visual standpoint, I think I've leveled up since Chapter 6 and I'm excited to show it to you guys once Chapter 7 releases. I hope with the choice system and the custom features I'm implementing, I'll be able to reach a much wider audience, but we'll have to wait and see. Either way, I'll have to do some re-evaluation after Chapter 7, what that means, I can't say for sure, but I'll let you know when the time comes. Now with those ramblings out of the way, let's delve into the dev update!

First of all, thanks for the votes on the outfits for Andrea and Lilly! There will be a couple more polls coming up as I move to scenes later in the chapter.

This past week has been mainly focused on audio design, making some animations in After Effects and trying to create a really stunning scene. I'm starting to get quite good at building out scenes and I'm very happy with how the visuals have turned out so far. Most of the first scene is done, with only a little bit left that I should be able to finish before the weekend.

Then it's time to move onto the next scene! I have some fun ideas in mind, but I'm not sure how hard they'll be to execute. Considering how popular Andrea is amongst players, I want to do that scene justice and make it truly unforgettable. There will be plenty of choices, so if you like Andrea, you'll be able to see a bit more of her if you choose the right options! ;)

I'm currently sitting around 130 renders for this Chapter with the first scene and there's 5 more scenes to go. As I said before, this will be a meaty update and I hope I can keep up the pace if I want to release this year, but it's too early to tell and hard to say how much work each scene will take before I start working on it.

And to end, I'll be releasing 2 4K wallpapers with the girls of Shadows of Ambition for halloween. A SFW version for everyone and a NSFW version for subscribers!

Other than that, that's all for this week.

I'll be back in touch next week with another dev update.

Much love,-AbyssGames

That s sad that such a great game loosing supporters. Only thing I can think that only one developer does and nobody else. Is cutepercentage did ingame support verification. And without it the game is much shorter like demo version. Games name is house of shinobi. Check it out may be you ll do the same and maybe it’ll help with leaks which hopefully will make people officially support developer. Wish you all luck. Keep the great work.

Spikes of supporters leaving after an update must be tough to deal with… it doesn’t mean in any way people disliked your work ! I hope you’ll be able to continue to make us dreaming with this wonderful game

AbyssGames

While I do understand devs who do that, it goes against my personal philosophy to put things behind paywalls in-game. I just need to make the game better, that's it.

Nelt

The game would still be available after free release. Hungry developer can’t make game better. But that’s just as an option. I just want people to be rewarded for the work they did fairly. I don’t think people would spread hate if you did this.

Particle Vision

Maybe I could be wrong. But isn't creating a lightweight "side hustle" game (NTS) bi-weekly updates could be considered a killer retention play? Like having a branching paths, etc could make canceling feel like they are missing out, so this keeps them hooked on you as a creator, not just one chapter at a time. Maybe it could mean more work or pressure on your end.

Blade

If you compare the numbers with other creators i don't think it is bad honestly. You can not compare the ratio of paid members to developers of phone Sim games like NosyFellow, Shybox or Le Stag cause they have monthly updates. And of course there are exceptions like NTRMAN but if you compare it to other big 2dcg nsfw VNs like Moonriple lake or Blurring the Walls you have a better ratio. Sure my new girlfriend is a bit better but not much. And if you look at these other games they often have choices but that does not bring more paid members. So even if i like choices i think you should not expect to solve this with choices only. If you look at house of Shinobi like someone else mentioned the ratio is not crazy too. It is popular cause of naruto but 2.686 paid to 23.489 members is not better then CG. So the paywall is also not the only solution. In my Opinion it is a mix of consistent quality, the right amount of Progression and teasing in the nswf part, gpod comunication during development and if best a scheduled release plan. Choices can help but balancing the Progression of diffrent paths is hard too.

Blade

Oh and to add i belive rethinking the price Tiers could realy help. At the end of the day it is a Video game and you get full games for 70€ that have more content. So paying over 10€ a month for even some month without content is a real comitment in my opinion. Of course that is how it works but maybe with lower prices like some of the mentioned other creators do you could hold more people in the off months. If it is better Profit wise is something i don't know. Just a reminder to maybe exchange with some of these creators about the pricing Tiers could help.

BrokenDude

True, I also think that'd work, adjusting teir price for more people to afford. Or, just create memes or thirst traps to lure players to your game. You know people nowadays, always horny for hot girls like Andrea. The exposure you'd get from it could be a great way of marketing your game. Do you have a Twitter acc Abby? It's also a great media to advertise your game to the public.

Harted

Hey Abyss, i'm sad for you the unsubscribe wave, hope you'll have more success in future. I have a question, choices wasn't just skip? I wasn't really happy about choices but skip were fine for me cause it wont take you much time and i wont have to replay the game several time to see all different scenes, you changed your mind about it?

BrokenDude

I did some research and Abby's tier list is really affordable. I think the reason of most cancelation is because the next update will be at Dec. 2 months away from from now... But stay strong Abby, hope shit doesn't get worse

Titney Houston

That’s definitely frustrating and understandable. Ultimately, it’s your call on how to develop and release the game, but breaking each chapter into smaller parts could potentially help with retention. This approach keeps higher-tier subs engaged month-to-month, since they’d get incremental updates. Meanwhile, fans who prefer to wait for the full chapter (or can’t afford ongoing support) can rejoin at longer intervals without feeling left out. If you go this route, consider keeping the partial releases behind at least the Chad tier, then roll out the full chapter through your usual tiered schedule once the whole thing is complete. You could always test it out for one chapter and see how it goes.

Titney Houston

Just some downsides to consider with this approach too… Could definitely impact narrative flow, especially since one of SOA’s greatest strengths is its pacing. Cutting it up into chunks could weaken impact. But again, there’s workarounds. And of course, it’s ultimately a subscriber’s choice to play part of the chapter or wait for the whole thing. Also have to consider any overhead and additional time that comes with any release i.e. play testing, increased communication around the partial updates/progress

Cardus

in general terms what Houston said hits the issue, im very sure a lot of the members that cancel do it to save the money for 1 month, since they can simply resub when a new update comes out! CircleGames just did a post regarding the same subject. lets say u write a full chapter, but no way u can deliver in 1 month... try break it in 2 parts so u can deliver something monthly! bottom line u want retention and the main reason why u are not getting it is due to the extended times between updates! the only question now is if u are willing to compromise in order to achieve retention!?

phoenix67234

I agree with monthly updates as people have mentioned and would just like to add that more polls is also always welcome. Not that you already arent making them quite often.

AbyssGames

Yes and no. Most of the choices are dialogue changes only, some include render changes depending on the choice. Then there's the skip choices incase you don't want to see certain content for whatever reason. I'm not doing complete seperate scenes for choices if that's your concern.

Harted

All good, thank you for the answer mate.
