Hi guys,

Just want to give you guys a quick thank you for all the kind words and the suggestions some of you have posted in regards to the last dev update post. It is really heartwarming to see how many of you are invested into the future of Shadows of Ambition.

The reason I mentioned the financial struggles the project is facing is quite simple:
Transparancy.

I've always been open and transparent about what goes on behind the scenes and communication with you is something I value above everything else. It's the reason why I've done dev updates every single week for almost an entire year!

The reason I'm writing a follow-up post, is to address some of the suggestions that people have commented.

The main one that stood out and was touched upon and is something that is brought up quite often, is to release more often, but with less content. While that is something I could do, I don't want to use it as an excuse to pump out less for more money. My fondest memories are when seeing a game gets updated and being able to experience all the new content. Sit down for an hour or two and really go through it and immerse myself into everything it has to offer. To see the evolution that happens when playing a chapter, I feel like by releasing smaller updates or releasing a chapter in chunks, it loses that core value I strive for.

At the end of the day, my goal is to make the game better. Not make it faster or cut quality for speed. The problem with releasing smaller updates, is that people who subscribe, are basically subscribing for crumbs. Sure, it's a good move from a financial point of view, but when I create a chapter, I'd like for the people playing it, to experience it all in one go. See how the build-up goes and be satisfied at the end. By cutting up a chapter into smaller parts, I feel like I lose that value.

What I'm trying to say is, while the financial situation isn't great, I wouldn't want to sacrifice the quality or the experience of Shadows of Ambition for it. I do have an alternative idea for the future, to provide content in between updates (Through the OogleFans interface as I could release OogleFans scenes as seperate monthly content in the future.)

But for now, I'll just power through and try not to look at the numbers too much. I don't want you guys to worry, I'm fine. All this is showing me, is that I still have a lot of room to improve as a creator. I currently like the steady release schedule I have with a big update every 3 months. Also the amount of content in those updates exceeds every other 2DCG game out there. That's just facts.

I don't want to be LIKE other games, I want to be BETTER.
When I made the choice to do this full-time, I knew it wouldn't be easy and I knew there would be hurdles along the way, but what matters is overcoming those hurdles. Chapter 7 will offer a lot more interaction and is a turning point in what I'm able to create.

I hope that clarifies my stance on everything. I don't want to take shortcuts for financial gain, I want to be proud of what I make. I love playing these games just as much as you and I want to respect everyones time and money.

Much love,
-AbyssGames

Love you man! Keep this story on!

What about raising the prices just like 2€ for all of the tiers? For 450 paying subscribers that would be 900€ a month more. I dont think many people would mind.

You and a few others, like DTZ, are gems in terms of communication. It’s why I was happy to lock in for an annual sub. As a fan, I hope some of these burdens will be relieved for you with time. You’re doing great work, and many of us are just glad to support

Been out of the loop these past few days but read this. I really appreciate your transparency when addressing certain development issues (whether about the game or personal issues). Keep your head up and hope everything works out for the better.
