Had been anticipating this one for a long time; thanks!

You were never gonna fit very much Businessing into a 32 KB BBC Micro You needed an IBM PC for that, as Little Car points out - it had Business right in the name. BBC had twice the B’s yet didn’t bother to make either of them stand for Business.

I’m a Canadian, so it should come as no surprise that my eyes were completely innocent of the BBC Microcomputer before I first stumbled upon the Crowded Room advert with Stanley Baxter during a Channel 4 advert break binge back in 2023; in fact, that and the Heather Cream Dinner Party advert represented the first time I’d ever encountered anything with Stanley Baxter - who suitably impressed me enough to seek out his work on YouTube. All honour to him, but I’m afraid that it seems like one of those things where “I had to be there” - like most vintage British comedy, it fails to translate over from its original target audience to my brain. My loss, I’m sure. These adverts were a joy to behold. If there’s one good thing about being 46 (47 by the end of next week), it’s that I can remember growing with a C16, C64 and Amiga. I hope it isn’t just rose-tinted dewy-eyed nostalgia that makes this period of home computers a bit of a golden age for computing…they really were that good, weren’t they? For those of you out there eager to take the bleach off my rose-tinted memories by reminding me about today’s ultra-high speed interfaces running in 2.5D and 3D packages in our machine learning chips connected to deep neural networks, then all I can say is that perhaps you had to be there… Many thanks for the fantastic episode!
