Happy 2023! This one was a really challenging set to do and I think it's a nice way to start the year. I've been deliberately avoiding more "standard" portrait shots unless I've got a really good narrative/compositional reason, and so ended up with these.

The middle two pieces were definitely the hardest to get a handle on, but were still fun to attempt :) As always, I'll be explaining and showcasing the process for these at the end of month video. Thank you so much as always for the support, and please look forward to even more art this year!

(You can also let me know of any suggestions you have regarding patreon content as well!)

Thank you! I'm thinking hard as well on how to best depict the next scene :)

guweiz

Thank you! No actually, with this particular representation of jade I decided to go over the top (by quite a lot), and make it super green, and transparent whenever convenient. It's just a layering of 3 concepts: It's a torus shaped object, it's reflective, and it's transparent especially in front of strong light. I think real jade wouldn't actually have been able to create the intended color accent as effectively!

I find it helps a lot to "break down" what you like about each piece of reference, so you can call upon parts of it where needed, but aren't completed tied into it as a whole :)

Love how the environment fits in the drawing, the dirty/bloody style, LOVE!!

鏡中影像好細節啊,戴上眼鏡的瞬間,那眼神太美了

Loving them :)

learclow

They're awesome!! 😲♥️

You did great despite the challenge! I don't have any particular reason for why, but I love how you made the water.

Regarding patreon content, have you thought of opening Discord channel?

QSash

I think the last one might be my new favorite piece from you fr. As for patreon content do you mean like, what content we want to see in the videos? Or what we want to see in the art itself? or both maybe

GUWEIZ this set is absolutely phenomenal. I'm blown away by your new style of storytelling. The choice of camerawork, lighting, posing, is all sublime. This in particular might be my favorite set of all of your work to date. I think it captures the dangerous, mysterious, confident, feminine, and stylish nature of this character masterfully. The use of a simple but bright palette with strong reds is an absolute winner and a treat to look at. Thank you so much for continuing to hone your craft and share it with all of us.

Every move of her took my breath and heartbeat away and for the first time my poor english cant even describe the feelings when I saw her in the ruins, just like a lotus blooms pure and untainted in the mud. The dirt on the broken windows makes the environment very realistic, I love these details, too. Thanks for your drawings and really hope to see more stories of her.

guweiz

It was really daunting at first, but I think the water actually turned out quite simple!

guweiz

There seemed to be quite a few requests on that! For now I'm talking about more direct content.

guweiz

Thank you! Mostly regarding video stuff, or peripheral content like doing patron submissions, and so on

guweiz

Thank you! I'm really lucky to have everyone's support, and I will definitely be trying my best to push my own limits and have fun :)

guweiz

It's a nice way to add some extra depth and space too :)

guweiz

Plausible deniability, who said there was any killing or violence? Could just be a ketchup machine explosion

Thank you! It always means a lot when someone says the latest work is their favorite, it feels like I've managed to push forward in at least some aspects of my art. It's something I'm always striving to do !

I really love this set! I'm usually scared of using those really dark values and here you used it flawlessly. The amount of contrast is just breathtaking. I was wondering if you'd make a "guide" on making fanarts(?). I know it's more straight forward, the design is already there etc, but I'm really curious of how you tackle fanart :) It's been a longg while since your last fanart (or at least from your uploads on your socials). I'm looking forward to it! if you do decide to make one. Thanks!

guweiz

Thank you, I'm happy that you like her so much!

guweiz

Thank you! Regarding fanarts, honestly, I'm not sure how I would draw them well, it feels really hard to bend my way of thinking to properly complete something I didn't come up with (if it makes sense). It would really have to be something from an IP that I really enjoy for me to even give it a try.

These are really powerful images. The bloody sink, her washing herself, the weapon and her glasses, sitting there to the side along with the bag. Then we see her getting ready to move onto the next part of her journey. It seems like it's just another day for her, but I keep thinking about what led to it and what she is going to do next. What I really love about your work is that when I look at these images, I know that what we are seeing is just this moment in time. I look forward to the next collection!

2026-09-18 10:00 Love the set! Tells so much story! I have a question, do you own jade bracelet or similar translucent object? Depending on the objects, i find it hard to apply a different light when there's no reference with lighting similar to the painting i do. Although the fundamentals can be applied, i always find it look awkward when i do not have a proper reference with the right lighting setting. Did you do studies of the material beforehand? (when you first painted it on previous pieces)
