Spooky! I'm in a "hands yet to catch up with eyes" phase recently, and it has been so hard to draw things without feeling that something is not quite right. Still, it was good challenge trying my best to finish this piece to the best of my abilities.

Small things here and there just look unfinished, but not in the good way, and no matter how I try, it seems really impossible to solve! It's hardly my first rodeo when it comes to phases of learning like this, so I'm taking it in stride. Also, I'm very much looking forward to talking about the process for this one soon.

What do you think? Is that something you guys grapple with as well?Last but not least, for those who would like to participate in the tutorial video homework review, the deadline is in 4 days (just a gentle reminder). It will be a fun one I think!

Thank you as always for your kind support!

Hey Guweiz, Some feedback for you :) I like the rendering overall, especially on the swords they look fantastic with nice volume, and the jacket is also done very well. You can tell that it has some weight, as indicated by the thickness. Likewise, I also like the blue light you put in, on the right, it's a nice cold contrast to the overall warm scene. Furthermore, the details in the background (the glowing red eyes and the silhouette to the right) give you something interesting to think about. The only slight critique I would give you with my limited knowledge as the viewer The gloves are a bit hard to read in the sense that the hand that's holding the cigarette looks a bit more latex glove-like, while the other one looks more like a bandage. Maybe this was intended. This, of course, is just my opinion. Sorry, this is kinda long, but I think feedback is important haha. Overall, I think you did an amazing job! And I hope this helps you in some way.

in the exact same boat right now, it's hard for me to finish drawings because i end up not liking it. i wanted to submit something for the homework this month but it's not looking like i can churn something out that i'm happy with so i gotta sit this one out.

It looks great!! I'm so grateful that you also mention the struggles you have while making art. You are so skilled so I always think that making art must be soo easy to the artists I look up to. But we are all human and self doubts and being too critical with oneself is sadly normal 😅 I often feel so discouraged when drawing but you really help me taking things into perspective and it motivates me to improve! Tank you!!! Only one more small month to wait before your artbook get shipped, I m so excited!

I'm in that seat myself atm, as soon as I pick up the pen I feel weight put on my shoulders and all my motivation to draw disappears even though I know I want to do it. I tried using the HW as a motivation to draw but after the sketch I just can't bring myself to finish it. I'm curious to what you do to overcome things like this!

It’s truly amazing!! I love seeking for little hidden details about the story in your drawings!!! I want to discover so much more about this world you created 🤩🤩🤩

A vintage beauty in a classic zombie movie theme, I cant tell the reason but the color matching is perfect especially the red and gold, I love it so much. And this picture has an old movie texture to me, dont know how to describe it ,but when I see it I feel like seeing a photo from the good old days. This picture is one of my favorites, I really love these feelings and wish you can keep on with that in more paintings!

It's only natural that we're our own harshest critics. If I couldn't see the flaws in my own work I would be truly stuck as I wouldn't have a clue what needs improvement. BTW, I thought the phrase can be read "I'm better at drawing eyes than hands"... which would be also very true :)

guweiz

Thank you for the feedback :) It's a good point on the gloves!

guweiz

No worries at all, it's all part of the process.

guweiz

Thank you, I'm glad you found motivation in what I said :) Believe it or not, it's really just part of the process!

guweiz

It can definitely be a stressful process trying to put together a piece that you feel isn't quite right, but aren't sure how to fix. I wake up sometimes dreading it as well - but ultimately I just tell myself to do what I can with this, and then there is always the next piece to work on and redeem myself. That's been the way I've approached it for years now, and so far it's gotten me out of slumps to the point that I really believe in it.

guweiz

Thank you, glad that you enjoy all the little details!

guweiz

Thank you very much! I'll definitely talk about the process in the video this month as well :)

guweiz

I really appreciate your comment! I wanted to try that kind of film color grading that I usually tend not to do, but it's hard to get it right. Very happy that you enjoyed it!

guweiz

Sometimes it's when a thing feels wrong but you really can't find out how to fix it that really stinks - but even then there's accumulation and learning taking place, so it's never really just a bad thing. Well, eyes are mostly just spheres and supporting structures around it, but hands....

Hey Guweiz. I joined up your Discord but I don't have access to the channels. Is this because I don't have a role? My discord user is Kashii#6376

Looks incredible Guweiz!! I can relate to that problem so much :'( I always get frustrated when I can't seem to achieve my intended goal for my piece. One thing that helped me was leaving the piece aside for a while, or get crit from others! Always helps to have a fresh eye haha. How do you get over that frustration when you can't solve something?

guweiz

I've got you added now :)

guweiz

Thank you! Sometimes it can be an issue of gaining knowledge during the painting process that kind of defeats the original idea - it can be painful but at those times learning to pull the plug can be really important, which allows you to transfer all that knowledge to a new piece

Kashii

Thanks! :D
