I wanted to tackle a more complex pose this time, and hoo boy did I bite off more than I could chew!

I've been in a bit of a slump honestly, having been rejecting a lot of pieces that were WIP, and ending up with precious few that can even make it to the end. This one was also close to being abandoned - and I think there are still plenty of mistakes, but I felt it was worth trying to finish with what I had!I liked the overall setting very much - playing an instrument in an abandoned theater with some spookiness added. I tried my best capturing it via the lighting and angle, making sure to focus in on the action of her hands.

I can't wait to discuss this one in the process video this month - honestly it was a really big challenge.

The pose, the perspective, and lighting were all completely terrifying to approach :)

Thank you so much again for supporting me here - I will never have otherwise had the opportunity to dedicate my effort to continuously learning and improving my art.As always, I want to know what you think!

Never thought I could see such a masterpiece drawing Chinese beauty play erhu before. The lighting is really lifelike , reminds me of the old cinema in my hometown ,they use the same light. The posture is definitely correct , you must have been studied hard to make it right , I'm really thankful you paid enough respect to this instrument and its culture. I love this girl so much , maybe you can draw her wearing Hanfu next time? Thanks for your work and eager to see more in the future!

I really respect you Can you upload a speed painting video from time to time??🥰

Can't wait to hear about the "terrifying" part :D

Absolutely stunning. I was so sucked in by the elegance and beauty of the character that I almost didn't notice the ominous eyes in the background (which freaked me out, I thought I was just seeing things at first). You've used her in several settings some of which were supernatural in tone, like this one, while others seemed to have a "hit woman in the criminal underworld" vibe to them with her, presumed, sister. Are they in the same setting?

I really like what you bring into all of your pictures, and this one is amazing, so subtle with the details and line work! I love these characters!

This is a beautiful piece of art and you captured a magical moment in it. Looking at it, I can hear the music and feel the atmosphere in the room. I can even imagine how it smells in this theater. …. Don't be too hard on yourself.

Just goes to show that no matter what level you are as an artist, everyone goes through the struggle of being in an art slump. It takes a lot of introspection and maturity to say "This may not be the perfect piece I want it to be, and that's ok." The piece looks fantastic, and after going through this slump and reflecting on it, you will come out wiser. As long as we learn from what we are doing, there is never a loss, only something to be gained!

Thank you, I'm glad you like it so much! It's difficult to balance accurate elements sometimes, but I'm happy I made an attempt - Hanfu might be difficult though to fit into the world and context

guweiz

Thank you! It's not something I do very much on my own honestly, so it might be difficult, but maybe it can be a standalone showcase

guweiz

Thank you, I appreciate it!

guweiz

Thank you! They are indeed in the same "world", I'm really glad you like the scene here :)

guweiz

Thank you very much, it was tough one but I'm glad I gave it my all!

guweiz

Thank you, I really appreciate the kind words! (Although I suspect this theater is a little on the musty side!) A mix of factors have left me a little under the weather recently, so frustration has been a pretty common emotion as of late, I hope I don't come across as whiny or deliberately critical.

Zwei Zhang

Well, that’s really a pity, thanks for explaining to me, still I will definitely support you as always:)

guweiz

Thank you for the kind words! Sometimes it's easy to forget that we can (and will) make pieces that don't live up to our own expectations. and that can also happen several times in a row. It does really help facilitate reflection as you said - to think more thoroughly about why and how things didn't work, and fix issues from there on.

Top Secret

^ 100% this. Sorry to hear about the frustration (Can definitely relate to that currently myself). Cannot wait to see what you produce moving forwards! Can't wait for this month's video as well, I'm sure it will be highly educational :)

Wow. I haven't been a member long, I joined to learn how u approach character design. I'm amazed at the content u put up and the frequency. Its very easy to follow and very insightful. Absolutely amazing pieces of work, u must have spent alot of time mastering your style.

Kesnek
