Logan, why do you hate sororities so much? I honestly only attended community colleges, so I'd say I agree with you. Just curious?

I find the concept incredibly absurd and groups like that normally incredibly annoying. Think they make people worse. And I lived next to them and frats for 3 years. So that doesn’t help. They’re not all bad. My hate stems for majority are.

That's understandable! I've always kept to myself and been a hippie/loaner (not like Kirk lol) so I don't have any experience with frats/etc!

I’ve always seen them as a way for the popular and hot shot kids of high school to stay somewhat relevant. Again they’re not all bad. I know people who have been in some. Not typically my crowd and I think they’re mostly trouble.

Well I'd agree with you 100%! It really is only a status thing. Honestly I feel it has no relevance to ones future life

I think social clubs and even male-only/female-only clubs do have some benefit to teens and young adults. However, modern American "sororities" and "fraternities" are far from that now. It's definitely just the continuation of a high school popularity game rather than being about positive socialization between like-minded people. I think in modern America, a lot of big-name sororities and fraternities are starting to be looked down on, especially since "hazing" became literally deadly.

Being involved in the Greek system was a decent experience for me. It has its good points and its bad ones. People who were never involved in it who hate on it typically think they know what it's all about when they really don't.

To my knowledge, hazing is strictly prohibited by the national headquarters of every Greek organization. A chapter can lose its charter and every member discharged if it is caught hazing. Not only that, but the universities will shut down a house and expel members for participating in hazing. I'm sure some still get away with it to some extent, but there was ZERO tolerance for it in my sorority when I was in college many many moons ago. We had none of it.

How can it be only a status thing when there are people who literally HATE it? When I was in school, every house was philanthropic. We held annual events to raise money for various causes. Every house had GPA requirements and even rules regarding personal conduct on campus. You couldn't mess around and party all the time or you would find yourself on probation and at risk of losing your membership. There was plenty of partying and fun to be had, but there was also support and motivation towards excellence. I feel my college experience was enriched by my membership in a sorority. I have no doubt there are some bad houses out there, but when I hear someone declare how much they HATE all greeks, rudeness aside, I tend not to take it personally since it's likely their opinion was formed based on hearsay and bad movies rather than personal experience.
