Chapter 6: Whatever You Do, Don't Go to the Attic.

Thud...

Thud...

Thud...

Footsteps entered the room.

Li Pai felt an invisible pressure and immediately held his breath. At the same time, his brain rapidly analyzed the situation.

The newcomer didn't seem to be the white-clad female ghost; their heavy footsteps also didn't match the female housekeeper's downstairs. It felt more like a physically strong man.

"Damn it all! How could there be so many monsters here! "It's much more dangerous than I imagined!"

Li Pai muttered to himself. He only had three silver arrows and wasn't sure if they would be enough.

Thud!

Thud!

Thud!

The footsteps passed the end of the bed and arrived at the desk. Dim moonlight streamed through the window, illuminating the figure of the newcomer.

From under the bed, Li Pai vaguely saw a pair of boots. They were large-sized, likely belonging to a man. The boots walked straight to the wardrobe.

"Creak..."

The wardrobe was opened.

"Ah!!!" A low roar echoed across the room, and Li Pai sensed the anger in that voice.

"This guy seems really furious, could it be that the head I took belongs to him, and that's why he went berserk?"

Li Pai felt something was amiss.

Facing a raging monster, he didn't have much confidence in dealing with it.

"Bang!" The wardrobe door was shut heavily.

Immediately after, there were sounds of rummaging through things, even the desk was overturned.

"Not good, I need to leave quickly." Li Pai knew that in no time, the bed frame would be overturned, and he would surely be discovered.

Taking advantage of the chaos in the room, Li Pai carefully moved toward the door side.

Just as Li Pai was about to leave the bed, the bed frame was suddenly flung up and slammed against the wall, blocking the door.

"Damn..."

Li Pai quickly got up, his back against the bed frame, the arm crossbow aimed forward.

With no escape route, he could only confront the enemy head-on.

The room was dimly lit, and Li Pai could only see a silhouette. However, the two eyes of that entity emitted faint red light, giving Li Pai a target to aim at.

"Roar!!!" The entity seemed to be able to see Li Pai in the darkness and roared as it pounced.

Without any hesitation, Li Pai extended his right arm, fingers pulling the trigger.

"Whoosh—" A silver arrow shot straight towards the center of the two red dots.

"Splat!" At such close range, Li Pai didn't miss, and the silver arrow hit its mark accurately.

"Ah!!!" With a miserable scream, the entity's body started shattering from its forehead.

The momentum of its charge had not yet stopped.

As its arm was about to touch Li Pai, with a loud crash, the entire arm fell to the ground.

The body scattered all over the place.

"Phew..."

Li Pai breathed a sigh of relief. The effect was quite good!

Fortunately, he found this arm crossbow; otherwise, things might have turned grim.

Unfortunately, there were only two shots left, so he had to use them sparingly.

Stepping on the debris scattered on the floor and aided by the faint moonlight, Li Pai found the oil lamp in the corner.

The lamp's glass cover was broken, but the overall frame was still intact.

Aside from not being windproof, it was still usable.

Using the flintstone he found earlier, Li Pai lit the oil lamp.

Unlike a flashlight, the oil lamp couldn't control the direction of the light, but its overall brightness was much higher than the almost dead flashlight.

Li Pai carried the oil lamp and looked at the ground.

Apart from the scattered debris, there were clothes like a leather jacket, cotton pants, and boots.

Li Pai squatted down and flipped through the leather jacket, sensing something peculiar.

"This material is the same as my arm guard."

"This guy... could he be the Hunter?" Li Pai was taken aback.

Comparing the marks on the arm crossbow and the leather jacket, they were identical. It was indeed the case! This guy was the hunter, right? How did he turn into a monster?

Li Pai felt that this place was even scarier than he had imagined.

"Killing this guy earlier didn't increase the exploration points."

"It seems that exploration points can only be gained by finding items."

"Thank goodness I have the compass that can sense nearby monsters."

"Let's try to move around and avoid confrontation."

Li Pai sighed. At the moment, he only wanted to steadily increase the exploration points to 50%.

As for battles, he would avoid them if possible. And as for falling in love with the blonde woman... that was too dangerous! He'd better not consider that for now.

Holding the lamp, Li Pai approached the door.

"Hmm? What's this!"

Li Pai, holding the lamp, suddenly noticed that there seemed to be words on the bed frame blocking the door. It was a hard-to-notice location! Even if the flashlight still had some power, Li Pai might not have looked at the bottom of the bed.

"Don't..."

"Go to..."

"The attic!"

Li Pai carefully recognized the words carved there.

Carved on the underside of the bed in the guest room... Was it done by a previous visitor or by the unfortunate hunter? Why would they specifically carve a warning not to go to the attic? What exactly was in the attic?

Li Pai fell into deep thought. The hunter had mentioned the attic in his diary. It seemed that there was something significant up there.

"I hope I don't have to go to the attic."

Li Pai silently prayed.

Currently, his exploration points are at 20%, and reaching 50% would allow him to leave this cursed place. He hoped that his luck would be better from now on.

Li Pai moved the bed frame to the side and grasped the door handle. The cold touch sobered him up a bit. Outside, there seemed to be a white-clad female ghost. He didn't know if the arm crossbow would be effective against her.

Li Pai slowly turned the doorknob, opening the door slightly, and peered outside with the lamp.

The corridor was quiet, with no trace of the white-clad female ghost.

With this realization, Li Pai walked out of the room boldly.

"There are still two rooms on the second floor." "I can explore them first."

Li Pai quickly made up his mind. Although there might be a female ghost in the corridor, she hadn't attacked him. Perhaps she was just a friendly NPC.

Thinking so, Li Pai felt somewhat relieved.

Suddenly!

The compass hanging around Li Pai's neck shook violently. A chill ran up his back, causing all the hair on his body to stand on end.

"No way! Another monster?!"

Li Pai glanced at the compass. The needle was spinning frantically, and the next moment, it suddenly pointed behind Li Pai.

"Behind me..." A sense of terror surged into his heart, making Li Pai's body stiffen.

Behind him... What in the world was there?!
