Maybe a cool patreon exclusive for this band would be the lead singer Grian Chatten’s album “Chaos for the Fly”. It’s a pretty short album and is a lot different from his work with Fontaines but definitely worth a listen

J

fave Fontaines album for me, probs would worked better to listen in order as its a slight shift each one

J

also noticed you seem to think this is album 2, this is 3

Definitely worth checking out the band been stellar they’ve got some cool interpol vibes mixed in with some other stuff

you skipped an album man there is a hero’s death before this and after dogrel also I love you mentions two political parties in Ireland Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil who are ruining the country and nabakov I think is about sacrificing yourself doing everything possible for it in a relationship that’s pretty one sided and losing it and happy days is a saying in Ireland like ah that’s great. Example I got a new car happy days or my leg break was clean so I don’t need surgery happy days also can be used in a sarcastic way

Yea Ireland has a language England forced it out when they stole our country through laws education basically just got rid of it everyone is different some speak a lot some speak none some speak basically and areas around the country speak it fluently as a main language and use English second that area is the Gaeltacht we also learn it in primary school which is your elementary and middle school and high school which is one school called secondary school . also as you can see are English is a bit hard for Americans to understand sometimes

Bit late but a lot of the album is specifically about emigration and the relationship between Ireland and England. 'Jackie' in Jackie Down the Line is referring to Irish people, it comes from Jackeen (in the last chorus he changes it to 'I'm one Jackeen of a line'). The lyrics make more sense if you treat Jackie as a personification of Ireland, and Sally as a personification of Britain. The song title actually became kind of a byword for emigration in Ireland, there was a rap album maybe a year later called Phantom of the Afters that is like a more personal look at feeling forced out of your home country and it makes a couple references to this song specifically at a couple points. Fine Gael and Fianna Fail are the two parties that have traded power in Ireland since independence, they're basically identical as like kind of centre-right pro-business parties. The line saying this rich cokehead has a parent in each party is jabbing at that because the song is about the kind of centre-right political chokehold the country's in. Nabokov could be taken a bunch of different ways, but the 'I'll be your dog in the corner' stuff I always took in the same way as the 'I sucked the ring off every hand' thing from the song before where he's performing his Irishness and his own persona generally at the beck and call of people more powerful. Really liked the reaction too, just wanted to give some local context since you asked.
