The Music Guy

They started out with “Madchester” Psychedelia and a shoegaze kinda sound. The next album still carries some of this but has a lot more britpop influences and in my opinion is a lot better. The band especially Damon actually disowned this album later into their career. I still think it’s pretty good but it gets better from here.

This album sounds completely different to everything else Blur have made. They pioneered the "britpop" sound on their next album, 'Modern Life Is Rubbish' which I and many others think is a much better album. While the instrumentation on Leisure is really good (as is the case in basically every blur album) the songs themselves just aren't strong enough.

I'm a fan but this album is very basic! Personally I like a handful of tracks on most of their albums but none of them are strong from start to finish

Leisure isn’t really that special compared to what came later. It hints at Blur’s potential, but it still sounds pretty tied to the baggy scene of the early ’90s. With Modern Life Is Rubbish, they finally locked into their Britpop sound — though even then, they felt very different from bands like Oasis. Blur’s take on Britpop was always more experimental and awkward, with weirder song structures and a more ironic, distinctly British edge.

So interesting to hear, it seems like they had a lot of different eras when it comes to their sound

Derek Dugan

The influences for their first album was primarily based on rave music, which is the sound you are hearing. It was their attempt to be commercial but as others have said, starting with Modern Life is Rubbish, they embraced the observations and sound from their British surroundings and then grew it more on Park Life. It is very British though.

Really looking forward to Modern Life is Rubbish, which I think is my favorite Blur album, and the first album that is really has the sound they became known for.

The great escape is by far there best album, and is at the hight of the oasis v blur Brit pop era

I’m excited too honestly seems like they have a lot to offer sound wise

You may have picked up on some Happy Mondays influence here and there.

Sing is one of their best ever, in a great scene on trainspotting which has a classic Brit pop soundtrack
