Another great reaction! On the topic of electronic music, I think you'd really like Air's 'Moon Safari' That album is a pure masterpiece in my opinion.

Will you do Amnesiac next? It's a very underrated album and one of my favorites... many skip it to go directly to HTTT/In Rainbows. It would be awesome if you reacted to it

I think the majority of those Genius annotations are way off, I'd advise you avoid them. :) How to Disappear Completely is about Thom's panic attacks during the OK Computer tour and his method of dissociating to get through them. (They had been propelled to a whole new level of fame. As introverts, they struggled greatly with the demands of that success.) Treefingers, to me, has always been the capturing of the quiet state of emotional exhaustion after a panic attack. Slowly feeling better but still vulnerable. This leads into Optimistic, where the narrator feels grounded again. Really enjoying your reactions and analysis. It's so refreshing seeing someone listen with an open mind to something outside their usual taste! Edit: Also, the sociological and political critiques they make in this and OK Computer on things like overconsumption, corruption, and disconnection are more prescient today than ever. Regardless of how famous they were, they had their eyes open.

Pitchfork gave this album one of their rare 10/10 ratings. "Even the heralded OK Computer has been nudged down one spot in Valhalla. Kid A makes rock and roll childish. Considerations on its merits as "rock" (i.e. its radio fodder potential, its guitar riffs, and its hooks) are pointless. Comparing this to other albums is like comparing an aquarium to blue construction paper."

Yeah the commenters on genius don't always live up to the title. I do like the deep dive on lyrics though.

Oh yeah, I think half of the experience is missed if you don't read into the lyrics ! I hope he keeps it up.

Motion picture soundtrack easily the best here imo, an ok album but despite being so futuristic at the time i actually find it more dated in a bad way now compared to the classics lik IR and the Bends

A UK TV host summed this album up when he interviewed Thom Yorke. He said "why would you make an album that is so difficult to listen to, it was only on my 16th listen that I realised it was one of the best albums I've listened to". Worth investing in. So is amnesiac, both great albums, just find the groove and trust the process

Is this album supposed to be a muscial journey that emulates being high out of your mind on LSD? That was something.

I’m excited for in rainbows I’ve been hearing a lot about it

Ahh I like that perspective on treefingers! Also appreciate you watching the videos 🙏🏿

Yeah I’m gonna go through their whole catalog in order! I should be able to record amnesiac in early January

The genius annotations are filled with peoples guesses, especially for an album like this where the lyrics are very ambiguous. My take is that a lot of the lyrics are kind of like impressionistic art, fragments of thoughts and sentences that are more meant to convey a mood or a vibe. It's not all that dissimmilar in intent from Oasis, it's just that the Gallaghers speak to good vibes like partying, love and hopefulness whereas Radiohead and Thom Yorke speak to paranoia, anxiety and fear. Both are writing about emotions and feelings that you can find your own meaning in and relate to, as opposed to telling a concrete story.

Great analysis from 1:15:53 to 1:16:51

Every. Single. Person. I've ever introduced to Radiohead or seen introducing themselves that goes from OK Computer to this one thinks "Ok but it can't be THAT big a switch can it?" and then they listen to the first 2 tracks and go "Oh shit it can be even more of a switch than I could've imagined."😂

I think you’re being too hard on them. Remember, they weren’t famous or rich then they became that way. So, it isn’t them from their ivory tower critiquing everyone else. Thom has always come from a strong place of alienation and concern about where humanity is headed. The problem is illogical. A band writes something super poignant and meaningful. They may be one of the most gifted bands at this. Which means it will draw a crowd. Which means money. We reward them for the gift to us. Then when too many people reward them we say, “oh, you did too well. Generally we would like your music but can we see what your bank account looks like first. Because if you’re so good at it you’re successful we will reject you.” So, honestly if Radiohead find themselves in this position it’s because we put them there. We made them rich. At the end of the day none of us understands what it must be like to do really well and then have millions turn on you because of your success. Only in America

seriously more dated than the bends? how do ppl even have these type of opinions lmao
