The last part of The Turning is a song, it’s Dear Prudence by The Beatles

Shaun Fletcher

People say this album is Noel telling the band it’s the end hence his last song he wrote and sang for oasis was falling down a really cool vid on YT by James hargreaves explaining it all. should give it a watch

Shaun Fletcher

It’s called, The OASIS album that correctly predicted the future (A Masterplan Conspiracy)

They did not know this was the last album, though tensions were high and that's probably reflected in the lyrics. Noel's first solo album was basically meant to be the next Oasis album. Liam and Noel got into a massive fight backstage in Paris about a year after this album was released. The crowd had to be told that the band was not performing due to a fight backstage, and Noel issued a statement that he was leaving the band because he couldn't work with Liam anymore two hours later.

Voice at the end of I'm Outta Time is John Lennon. The song itself (written by Liam) sounds like it could be a Lennon song.

I think part of the problem with the last few oasis albums was Noel only wrote about 6 songs on them, where he wrote all of them on the early albums, if a new oasis album was to come out I hope there’s no gem or Andy songs on it, there just beady eye fillers

The audio at the end of "I'm Outta Time" is a clip from a John Lennon interview where he was talking about his immigration issues. He moved from London to New York in the early 1970s and faced a lot of legal problems in regards to moving to America.

Dan Hartzog

Liam wrote on X recently: "If we tour again it's OASIS songs all NOELS" so sounds like any new album would most likely be all Noel songs as well.

If you are interested in some context behind why the split inevitably happened i’ve copied a popular reddit thread below which captures this from an emotional POV. “Liam didn’t spend 15 years grieving a band mate. He spent 15 years grieving the only father figure he ever had. The one who protected him every night in his bedroom. The one he loves more than himself. Noel is 5 years older than Liam so the horrific mental and physical abuse they endured as children led noel to want to protect his baby brother until they finally escaped their father one night with their mother. Noel in the end grew tired of being the ‘parental’ influence of his 37-year-old brother. A role a young boy should never have had to take on in the first place. ‘Liams like a dog and i’m like a cat’ Noel once stated. Noels trauma is expressed internally, through self destruction. He further stated that he has ‘locked away’ his trauma, and whilst loving Manchester as a city and culture, is often fearful of returning there, which is evident in his lyrics of ‘D’you know what i mean’. Yet, something he cannot lock away is still being Liams ‘protecter’ 30 years on. A constant reminder of his childhood. The beginning of Oasis meant Noel and Liam lived on top of each other day in day out for years on end, and meant that this reminder of childhood was constantly suppressed through substance abuse and alcohol. When Noel began to end his drug habit, he stated he was ‘scared of liam being drunk’ which clearly suggests that the angry approach liam takes to express his own trauma triggers feelings of his dad’s violent alcoholism and causes noel to immediately retort to being independent and alone. However, Liam has clear abandonment issues and evident trauma which is often not internally expressed. Instead, Liam externally rages. This for many years was fuelled by drugs and alcohol, leading liam to discuss committing suicide. The many years alcohol was used to cover these thoughts has now led Liam’s sober self to produce high levels of anxiety. ‘Liams like a dog’ shows his need for attention and reassurance, particularly from Noel. Liam also stated that the only way he can release his anger is through music and therefore felt ‘betrayed’ when Noel left Oasis. Noel clearly associated his trauma with Liam and felt the need to escape this. Liam clearly associated Noel with protecting him and being the steady influence in his life and longed for this back. Although we cannot rewrite history, I truly believe for both brothers the break was necessary and important. Hopefully Noel has healed throughout these years in a way which allows him to love and start fresh with his brother. Liam has also clearly learned to navigate a world without dependency whether that is people or alcohol, and whilst always missing and longing for his brother, is now able to enjoy brotherhood from a similar viewpoint to Noel’s. Although, many people have different views on who wronged the other brother, it is clearly not that simple. The lost contact for all these years was a result of traumatised children who had no outlet to express their trauma.”

"Bag It Up" is one of the best things they ever did

Definitely! I’m going to watch that video as soon as I get back in town

Wow that’s wild I didn’t know high flying birds was originally supposed to be another oasis album

joseph

When you do do the solo albums could you do them alternately? like liam noel liam noel or the other way, could even compare them? could also include beady eye (though very mid) maybe and live albums etc

Steff

Good shit man. I can definitely feel the Oasis fatigue through your listens, which is not a bad thing at all! Just for example, it feels like you’re actively looking for something abit different, and those songs that do feel different, you rate quite highly - although they’re aren’t usually well liked by oasis fans. The shock of the lightening is a big hit for oasis fans, but like you said, it’s very Oasis-y. Also, some fun facts, Falling Down was used by a semi-popular anime intro theme, and it was also Oasis’ last ever single as a band, something Noel was quite proud of. Take the time you need before moving onto Noel and Liam’s stuff, you’ve consumed 16 years worth of Oasis music in a few months - which is good going!

Thanks for this 🙏🏿 it’s actually so interesting to hear about the dynamic they had. It makes a lot of sense now and I can see how that relationship could’ve been pretty unhealthy on both sides. I hope that they’ve learned how to live on their own during their time apart. If I can remember I want to talk about it a bit in a bonus video when I get back in town

Sage is Typing...

Wait fr? What anime was it used in?? Yeah I’m for sure gonna take a bit of a break before the solo stuff haha. I don’t wanna go in and not appreciate them just because I’m looking for something new

Steff

It’s called Eden of the East. I’m not really into anime, so I don’t know how popular it was, but that was the name of the show.

I'm Outta Time is the magnum opus of Liam as a singer and a songwriter. Absolutely gorgeous melodies and lyrics. He bares his soul in that song. Absolute shame that Liam didnt give this song more playtime during his solo career.

Falling Down is the best song of the album. The last ever Oasis single to date. I think Noel knew this was the end of Oasis in 2007-08 and he wrote this song as a love letter to the fans and goodbye to the band. But also give us a glimpse of the High Flying Birds tenure. The dark lyrics, the menacing tone, etc makes it so special. Its a crime that Noel didnt play it live during his solo tours

Adidasper

I can't believe you didn't like shock of the lightning noooo, it's like my number 5 oasis song. your opinion tho :(

Tashrif Alam

The first half of the album is incredible. The second half after Falling Down kind of drops off a cliff. But there are some incredible songs. Falling Down and I'm Outta Time are still some of the favorite Oasis tunes. So is The Shock of the Lightning.

I feel like if I heard it earlier on in the journey I would’ve like it a lot more haha

I feel like you would love Noels solo albums
