Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys felt inspired by Rubber Soul and made Pet Sounds, then The Beatles felt so inspired by that record they made this

John Doe

transitions were always that way. Groundbreaking stuff bro. It is definitely an alter ego Sgt Pepper, they were kinda the first mainstream "concept album" ever made. It was Paul's idea so that they dont get bogged down by people's expectations of their past music and really go ham with the experimentation.

jerrun holt

Dont listen to strawberry and penny lane seperately they are both on the magical myster tour which is their next album

jerrun holt

To me this is their 2nd best abbey road is perfect start to finish

jerrun holt

Mystery tour wasnt technically a traditional studio album release it was more of a sountrack to a movie they put out, but its basically an album and jt counted as one its where strabwerry and penny lanes finished versions are

J

about to watch, here goes

Jack

Strawberry fields and penny lane (the singles from this album) are on their next album, magical mystery tour, so no need to listen to them separately

A day in the life is probably one of if not my favourite songs of all time

That sound at the very end is the Beatles having some fun with the way records worked. Vinyl records had a groove at the end where the needle would go in a loop, and some machines left the needle spinning in the loop until you manually moved it back to the resting place. If you had a record player that didn't automatically return the needle to the starting spot, that noise loop would play over and over again. The high pitched noise you heard was meant to make dogs bark at the end of the album.

Generational run indeed! This is the first time any Beatles album has produced 3 S-songs in a row. It's also your highest rated Beatles album, getting an average score of A. Sgt. Pepper is the first ever concept album and a pioneer for so many things in popular music, I'm not gonna list it all here because the Anthology will explain all in due time when you get to it. It may be worth noting that your next Beatles listen should be Magical Mystery tour. In the UK it was released as an EP with only 6 songs, but the US release added all of their most recent singles together as a second half making it into more of an album. The singles from Sgt. Pepper you mentioned are featured on there so no need to worry about missing anything. Every streaming service should feature the US version of the album so no worries about getting that wrong either.

Great reaction you don’t need to listen to Strawberry Fields and Penny Lane separately. They’re on magical mystery tour, which is the next album.

Samuel Rosén

Can't wait for you to react to Ringo's drumming in Strawberry fields

flyingscotsman_a3

Don't worry about the singles, they're included in Magical Mystery Tour, which is a combination of songs recorded for their feature film of the same name and also the singles released around the time of Sgt Peppers.

lee

Can’t wait for him to react to blue jay way 😂

Derek Dugan

Paperback Writer/Rain and Day Tripper/We Can Work It Out were singles in the Rubber Soul/Revolver era that should be listened to at this point. Rain was a B Side but was revolutionary musically.

For the singles don’t really worry in general. As others have said those two are on the next album and all of the ones released during this later era are gonna be on that second volume of past masters. So just listen to the albums like normal and you’ll be good.

Keenan716

yea but its the 2009 mix which fucking sucks. the 2015 mix of strawberry fields is so much better

Keenan716

Great video as always and your quote "I fully get it now" is absolutely exactly how I felt when I first heard them years back. I couldn't believe that something could sound like that from the 60s. They were so ahead of their time! For the sgt pepper singles, like others have said those are on the next album Magical Mystery Tour but they are the 2009 mixes. A few things now for the song "She's Leaving Home" that song has layers in regards to the lore. There is a great video about it where someone actually talked to Melanie herself and she explain the backstory, its a great watch and I'll link it here ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ivE4G27Uys ) . For A Day in the Life, some say the line about the 4,000 holes and "now they know how many holes it takes to fill out Albert Hall" was a bit of wordplay and double entendre in a sense of mentioning the holes and then calling the government assholes in a clever yet indirect way. Lennon was very active politically, very vocal man. As you'll see in the Anthology series more and more. Also not to mention if you do end up listening to the singles, the newer mixes sound so much better. The Sgt. Pepper singles you'd want the "Strawberry Fields Forever - Stereo Mix 2015" and the "Penny Lane - Stereo Mix 2017" both of those are in the Super Deluxe you were in. Also for the Rain and Paperback Writer singles there are 2022 mixes available for those in the Revolver Super Deluxe on disc 5 on spotify. if not those are in past masters that you'll get to later on I just hate those mixes, its just a personal preference for me lol.

Ah, yes, finally you made it! to one of the most influential albums of ALL time.....in fact this album was influenced by the Beach Boys album "Pet Sounds" (also amazing), apparently Paul heard one of the singles and he was so blown away he needed to come in the studio to make this masterpiece and even funnier because Beach Boys said their album was inspired by Rubber Soul so alas the Beatles out do themesleves again!

Daniela Villegas

People refer to this as the first concept album but the funny part is in interviews they said it did start out as that but only the first couple songs and the sgt peppers reprise were made with the concept in mind. After they stopped touring by revolver and on their main focus was studio recording and thats where most innovations were made. Until let it be live the way it was intended as a live album. And yes the transitions were intentional!
