Notification gang let’s get it

Cody

The fact that this album is all over the fucking place makes it that much more interesting to me. They were completely directionless yet still putting out bangers

Jack

When i first listened to this album i wasnt a fan of it at all and hated how messy it was. Now that ive listened to it way more I love how messy it is and its my favourite beatles album . Definitely an album that can take a few listens to fall in love with

Dan Hartzog

That's Eric Clapton on the solo on While My Guitar Gently Weeps. One of only a couple people other than the Beatles to play on a Beatles song.

Josh

Number 9

Dan Hartzog

That's the same reason I love this album. Yes, there are songs that are not going to make a greatest hits on here, but this is the album to put on when you want to go deeper and hear the Beatles writing songs that are not intended to be hits. And, I'm So Tired is one of my favorites.

TheOptimist

“If I did all 30 I might have started lashing out” revolution 9 would have driven him crazy 😭😭😭

Jack

I love to see the rocky racoon love. So many people shit on that song but it's so unbelievably peak

Cody

1:18:00 “I don’t know man, I’m not usually a fan of fiddles” 😂

Great video. I think you nailed it with your thoughts. 2 comments: The guitar solo on While My Guitar Gently Weeps played by Eric Clapton who was a good friend of George. John did started to use H on this period so it most likely that was he was referring to using 'fix' and 'I'm going down' on Happiness is a Warm Gun.

Jack

100% agree with this. The fact it feels unpolished and so random from one song to the next makes it so good to me. This sounds ridicuous but the 'bad' songs on the album honestly make the whole thing even better too. Im so tired is definitely one of my favourites as well.

Glass Onion is a song John wrote after the press and people were reading a lot into their lyrics and trying to interpret what the Beatles were writing about and what each thing means. Glass Onion, meaning that your able to see through all the layers in the songs. Clever title, a bit tongue in cheek from John as his humor was always like that.

Dan Hartzog

Poor Ringo - no love for Don't Pass Me By, his first songwriting credit.

Dan Hartzog

The diversity of Paul McCartney to have Why Don't We Do It in the Road and I Will back to back.

The story behind this album is that they weren’t getting along. Everyone was developing different interests, living different lifestyles, writing different types of music and feeling very differently about what The Beatles should be and as a result they didn’t like each other and each others songs. The album has so many songs, has a blank cover and features such wildly different kinds of music is all for the same reason, The Beatles just could not agree on an artistic direction and this was a compromise solution that everyone could live with but nobody loved. So when you feel that “with this album we just get the entire session” you are essentially correct.

McCartney has a lot of great solo music. He released two albums by himself called “McCartney” and “RAM” immediately after The Beatles broke up which are both great, but he then spent most of the 70s in a new band he formed called Wings. Dear Prudence: This is the grandfather of Champagne Supernova (in terms of structure and arrangement, melodically the are quite different) so I am not surprised that you like it. Ob-La-Di-Ob-La-Da: Very divisive song. Lennon refused to play on it during much of the sessions calling it “fucking granny music” While My Guitar Gently Weeps: This is Eric Clapton playing guitar. He and George were friend and George felt like the song needed a ripper of a solo that was outside his wheelhouse so he brought Clapton in to do the job. Happiness Is A Warm Gun: I’m impressed that you clocked the Heroin vibes here because you are spot-on. Lennon was getting into it at this point. Lennons denial comes from a time where he still wanted to downplay his past addiction, he sadly did not live long enough for it to be far enough behind him where he could be fully candid about it. The vast majority of the songs with troll-lyrics or that sound like half-finished bits stuck together are Lennons. His productivity understandably took a hit from his addiction and he mostly showed up to the studio with the songs half-written and relied on the contributions of his bandmates, improvisation and weird experimental ideas to finish them off. Fun fact, This songs 3-act structure was the initial inspiration behind Radioheads Paranoid Android Don’t Pass Me By: This is Ringo’s first songwriting credit. Almost universally considered one of the worst Beatles tracks. It does sound a lot like his later work on the Thomas The Tank Engine soundtrack. Julia: You’re perceptive in noticing the similarity with Blackbird. Lennon and McCartney had been hanging out with a Scottish musician Donovan who taught them the finger-picking style of guitar playing. The end result was McCartney writing Blackbird and Lennon writing Julia.

LilacKodo

You need to listen to ”Hey Jude” sometime. It isnt on any album but its one of their top 5 biggest songs, maybe top 3. Its a must

Lee Rogan

During a spiritual retreat in India a guitarist who was also there taught John and Paul a guitar finger-picking technique, the result of which is Dear Prudence and Blackbird, amongst others that came after those.

Joel bravo

It’s interesting how you almost immediately called happiness is a warm gun chopped and screwed when chopped and screwed music is heavily influenced by lean and lean is essentially baby heroin

Agathe Picart

intro of honey pie sounded like the instru of a blur song ahahah

John Doe

WHITE ALBUM IS GOATED ITS UNEVEN AND ECLECTIC AND CRAZY AND WEIRD BUT ALSO VERY NORMAL BRO I LOVE THE WHITE ALBUM , WHITE ALBUM SLANDER WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. Thanks for coming to my ted talk

Sage is Typing...

wait I didn't know lean and heroin were similar lmao. I was wondering why the two styles of music had similar vibes but that makes so much sense now

Joel bravo

Was originally the narrator as well

Ritchie Lamond

You need, need, need to watch the While My Guitar Gently Weeps tribute to George Harrison performance from the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame… the solo is insane

JM

You should check out the cover of While My Guitar Gently Weeps at the rock and roll hall of fame 2004. Price does the best guitar solo I’ve ever heard, also Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne (ELO) and other greats are playing with him

Toasty006

JUSTICE FOR MY MANS ROCKY (my favorite Beatles song on this album since a child lmao)

Sam

U should do 2018 mix for side 2

Sam

It will be “the Beatles super deluxe”

Alex

Wait you missed the magical mystery tour album tht was after sgt peppers. Definitely not as good but some great pyschdelic tracks

Alex

Yeap yr right cheers cause its not on the collection

J

(2nd) worst beatles album for me. It does my head in at times and there's just outright too many songs that just creep me out and i've legit blocked on spotify cos im a pussy (the limit should always be 1) Lol - but everything else barring beatles for sale is 10/10 imo

Daniela Villegas

he was referencing yoko too in happiness is a warm gun but he said it ready was just the advert saying happiness is a warm gun like a gun you just shot he thought the ad was wild. alot of the random things he put in songs were meaningless or stories and stuff he saw in papers so thats why he would say people tried to find meaning in all the songs when there was none. like the part of the the part of the velvet hand was from a story about a guy with a fetish for velvet gloves. thats also why the walrus and come together had intentional non sense lyrics he was always trolling lol

Daniela Villegas

also i think that this album shows the contrast between John and Paul. I like both their voices and styles but prefer Johns sometimes you can really tell with this one Pauls polished pop show tune sound like happy and bubbly and Johns songs previous albums included always give a deep meaningful vibe and i love the more raw sounding vocals. i know your watching anthology but where you cant tell if they liked this album or not they said there was tension recording it but some said they liked it because anybody had an idea for a song and they did it so if feels all over the place for sure shows all of their different styles of music.

JaydenWhitlen

I think condensing defeats the purpose of the whole album, it's kinda supposed to be a mixed bag and the variety is what makes this album for me. Definitely biased because this is my favourite album.

Patti Crichton

"BEATLES FOR SALE" is one of MY FAVORITE ALBUMS, I LOVE it, I don't understand why people here give it such a bad rap? All my Beatle Friends from the beginning, LOVE that album. It sure is a mystery to me as to what is so bad about it. Geez

Patti Crichton

I agree with Brandon ghgghh I didn't like Prince's version, this was supposed to be honoring George for being inducted into the Rock Hall as a solo performer, and Prince had to make it all about HIM, just because he was pissed off about something. He's a great guitarist for sure, but that was the wrong place to take the attention away from George, he should have checked his ego at the door. A much better version is done at "THE CONCERT FOR GEORGE" at the Royal Albert Hall in London, on the first anniversary of George's death. (held on Nov.29, 2002) where ERIC CLAPTON played the solo like it was meant to be. There were NO EGOS that night in London among all the famous singers and musicians who played George's songs that night. ALL of them were either musician/singer friends of George's, or people he worked with at one time or another over his solo career, and of course, PAUL and RINGO were participating as well. If you have never seen it, you should, it's a beautiful concert, and NO ONE was trying to "SHOW OFF" It was all for George.

Patti Crichton

Sage should ALSO watch "The CONCERT FOR GEORGE" at the Royal Albert Hall in London on Nov. 29, 2002 which was the 1st anniversary of George's death. It's a much better concert and no one is showing off and taking the focus away from George and his music. The huge band is made up of George's personal friends who are musicians, ones that he worked with during his solo career and of course is former band mates in the Beatles, Paul and Ringo, and former bandmates from The Traveling Wilburys. All the performers who sang George's songs that night were also either personal friends of his and who also worked with George. It's SUCH a BEAUTIFUL tribute to George.

Patti Crichton

ME TOO, John Doe!! I love "Rocky Racoon" too, so many people don't like it, they even "hate" it, which is just ridiculous. I was prepared to hear Sage say that it didn't do anything for him, so I was REALLY SHOCKED when he said he loved it....I actually said "YAY" out loud and clapped! LOL

Patti Crichton

STANDING OVATION from ME , JOHN DOE!!

Patti Crichton

That guitarist would be DONOVAN, LOVE his music too.

Patti Crichton

I called out Sage on that as well! I thought it was mean and I am glad that Ringo will NEVER see Sage's "grade" Ringo just released another country album, he has ALWAYS loved country music.

Methampheminist

I'm So Tired is goated asf, for me the guitar tones fit the subject matter of the lyrics perfectly and Lennon's lyrics are relatable asf, the chorus rocks hard too

Patti Crichton

awwwwww SAGE! HOW can you be so MEAN to give RINGO an "F" on the song he WROTE and also SANG? I don't think he deserves that! As for "WHY DON'T WE DO IT IN THE ROAD," that is PAUL just having a bit of FUN. It wasn't meant to be a complete song. Paul had said in an interview that when they were in INDIA, he came upon 2 monkeys who were fornicating in the middle of the road. He thought it was funny, and so THAT is the inspiration for his song. However, it was not directly IMPLIED as to WHAT SHOULD we be doing in the road. It could be ANYTHING....Play catch, dance, ride a bike, have a picnic, play cards, take a nap.....it doesn't HAVE to mean what most people THINK it means (get your minds out of the gutter, guys!! LOL!!)
