I personally dont likr this album as a Radiohead glazed

non_ame101

Make sure to check out two additional songs from the same record session that didnt fit with the mood of this album: the daily mail and staircase. Both serious bangers. Weirdly.

Krooll

A moon shaped pool imo is their most polished and well thought out album

Marcus Virkus

For what’s supposed to be their worst album this is still crazy good

Riley Wigmore

Love the reaction Sage! As for my thoughts on the album… even as a major Radiohead fan this is their worst album (not counting Pablo Honey, which doesn’t feel like a Radiohead album). I’d say the summary of my thoughts: “Meh… but at least it gave us Lotus Flower”

it's a terrific record but one that grows, pretty much how most ppls first listen goes was yours. The King Of Limbs is a tree in a forest in Oxford, so spot on with the forest vibe. As a fan of four tet/aphex twin type of electronic music it's not jarring to me as some others. You were dead on about them recording seperate parts in seperate rooms. It was influenced by remain in light by Talking Heads. The "King of Limbs - In The Basement" for this is well worth seeing, as these songs performed live with instruments take on a whole new vibe, Bloom for example is fantastic to come together live. So I'd recommend that, same setup as In Rainbows In the Basement! There's also a great solo version of "Bloom" by Thom called "Ocean Bloom" live version well worth a listen or seeking out. Bloom and Seperator are the most played still on current setlists, sometimes Lotus Flower gets a look and the music video for that was meme'd to death, just Thom dancing very bizzarely. The melancholic feel continues on "A Moon Shaped Pool" but that has more strings and classical elements via Johnny Greenwood. Thom I think shortly after this record or around this time split with his wife of 23 years. She very sadly passed away of cancer not long after "A Moon Shaped Pool's " release in 2016, so a lot of that record has grief from that period, especially "Daydreaming". Many see AMSP as the farewell album as it includes a very old track "True Love Waites" which dates back to the mid 90s. They did recently return to play live in Europe after 9 years, insane gigs but no new music on the horizon. Hope that context helps good reaction dude!

This album has seriously grown on me over time, the second half is an impeccable run to me. Please check out the King of Limbs from the Basement performance, it made me appreciate/see the album in a whole new light. Plus it contains two brilliant songs that were not included on the album - the Daily Mail and Staircase. PS - please also check out the Lotus Flower music video for some brilliant Thom moves!

Danny Rockett

You really do need to give this album some time because I thought it was undisputedly the worst album but now its in my top 5 I also thought it was just weird noises thrown all over the place at the start

Danny Rockett

Also this was just after the peak of their career so they lowk just did whatever the fuck they wanted😭 ed literally said the weirder the better

Danny Rockett

I should probably stop commenting but they have a remix of this version where all the songs are edm versions

David Coppinger

Took me about 10 years to come back to this after my first listen but as always, I was wrong and Radiohead were right. It's a really slow burner but I love most of it now and Codex which I didn't even notice first time is now my favourite all time Radiohead song

TheOptimist

Elements of it you did enjoy? For an F? What is this woke nonsense

Eren Yaslama

from the basement is way better

Ttgreeny

When's in rainbows disk 2 sage😔

Marcus Virkus

I’d definitely have to say to give it another listen after some time It really does grow on you

J

Codex is amazing but thats it for me

Sage is Typing...

Wow that's so insane I guess thom actually was going through a lot during this time, I was definitely getting that vibe based off the lyrics. Good look on the King of limbs from the basement though! I'll have to look into that one

Sage is Typing...

I agree I'd definitely be down to come back to this one at some point

Sage is Typing...

Yeah maybe a bit harsh but idk that's just how I was feeling in the moment lol

Monkey Ninja

Calling a song ranking woke when it has nothing to do with politics is crazy 💀

Pranav Gadamsetty

Appreciate the honest reaction Sage! You should check out “from the basement” version of this album. That version made me appreciate the album much more. That being said, tbh I always go back to the basement version of these songs compared to the studio album version

This was a disappointment when it arrived, with the exception of the brilliant Lotus Flower. We had In Rainbows four years earlier which was insanely good, so this was a major dropoff.
