You have to do the Alice in chains MTV unplugged now. The songs sound so much better in that version

Connor Cutting

For most people this is the best grunge album, but some people prefer lighter music and fair enough. if you enjoy lighter music then pearl jam - ten will definitely be much better.

KlakusMagaluf

You should listen to jar of flies. I think that album suits your music taste a little bit more idk

Joonatan Konttinen

Might just be my favorite album of all time, but I gotta be honest I didn’t like it on first listen either (the vocals) but on second listen it just instantly clicked with me. Seeing sickman in F hurts my soul

To give some context for the lyrics of Junkhead. The second half of the album is basically a addiction story. It starts with Junkhead, where he's singing from the perspective of someone who is prideful of their usage and is enjoying it. But by the time you get to Would, the regret and pain of the addiction has set in. Their follow up EP, Jar of Flies was made during a time when Layne Stayley's heroin addiction was getting really bad, and the lyrics are basically the exact opposite of Junkhead. It's actually quite emotional too, considering that Layne would die from Heroin overdose in 2002.

I'd have to agree with you, this does nothing for me

Purple Zeppelin

Bro, when you started ranking drugs hypothetically 😂😂 you needed a PR person in the back to throw up the stop signal

Ryan Manuel

I have a strong feeling you would enjoy Jar of Flies, as it is far less heavy/distorted and dissonant sounding than dirt, and probably more your style. On the other hand, I think their debut album Facelift is a great album for appreciating how insane Layne Stayley's voice is with hits like Man In The Box and Bleed The Freak being loved by most people who hear them. I love Dirt, but I'm not sure if it was the best AIC album you could've started with.

Tyrone Giovanni

I knew you wouldn’t like this after the In Utero reaction. Knew it’d be a little too heavy for you lol, I personally think it’s the best album of the 90’s and definitely one of the best ever

Tyrone Giovanni

The arctic monkeys guy doesn’t like Alice In Chains, what a shocker… we need to stop suggesting heavy stuff for dude, he clearly doesn’t f*ck with it. He’s more of a Toto dude lmaooo gotta get him to listen to Africa, think that’s more his speed lol. Maybe some Fleetwood Mac, but not Chains, that’s a bit too heavy for him lmaoo. I’m just messing by the way, I love your reactions- each to their own.

Tyrone Giovanni

Don’t think he messes with grunge. Which is fair tbh, it definitely had to grow on me. But when it did, man oh man I never put those albums down! Taste is subjective tho, what you’ve been through, your upbringing, your previous taste in music, all of it comes together to determine what you’ll be into. From the moment he mentioned Kid Cudi in the Fontaines video I knew he wouldn’t mess with the raw, heavy stuff. Maybe we should start making suggestions more to his taste

Tyrone Giovanni

Think it’ll still be too heavy for him, I guarantee he’ll only like Nutshell and Rotten Apple

James

I love grunge and Layne Staley's voice, but I really appreciate that you don't pretend like you love grunge or Layne Staley's voice and give those honest opinions.

Jaden Maughan

oasis don’t look back in anger documentary, i don’t know if your finished with the oasis era, but even just to watch it in your own time it’s worth a look.

wtfbeany

I think this album really hit for people at the time simply for how different and raw it was emotionally, but Layne's voice and the overarching dissonance of this album are absolutely an acquired taste and especially hard to get into depending on what your taste is. I really appreciate how you were able to delineate between the feeling behind the songs and how you felt about them. I love your honest reviews!! Keep it up. I heavily recommend Jar of Flies, my favorite from them. Facelift is good too, but honestly the same factors go into that album as this one, aside from the more obvious glam influence.

Solli2ude

Even if so its still definitely worth the listen because those are 2 of aic best songs and he needs to hear them
