Hi there!

I have a treat for you – a full process of coloring with chill background music.

No talking, just drawing!

In this video I’m coloring this month’s Patreon print. In case you forgot how it looks:

I had 3 hours worth of footage and turned it into this 25 minutes long video.

I didn’t wanted it to be too long or to have to speed up any parts of the video. I hope I managed to present my drawing process in the most organic and authentic way!

You’ll get to see what I meant when I said in the previous video that there’s a lot of going back and forth from medium to medium and how it really looks to color one area several times.

I think this video showcase my drawing process even better than the previous one.

PS. There’s no intro or outro in this video (the music getting more quiet is an indicator that the video is going to end in about 30 seconds).

Hope you enjoy it!

So lovely! Hi Marta, I'm new here and I was wondering where you get your inspiration from. Do you use reference photos? Maybe you combine a few? I was hoping you could share some composition tips here. Thanks!

Hi Roberta! Thank you so much and welcome!! ♡ I’m happy to have you here! Oh my, I’ve been meaning to make a blog post and a video about this topic but it’s so huuuge. I’m still trying to find the best way to show this part of the process and talk about it. Let me just answer shortly here. My general rule is: I don’t use reference pictures for my final illustrations but I do use them for practice sketches. Usually, before I start working on an illustration, I’d do tons of pencil sketches of the subject, based on several references. I’d look at a lot of reference photos (or videos! these are the best way to really understand how for example a particular plant looks!), sometimes even read and learn about this subject. Later, when I’m working on the final illustration, I draw using this “visual library” I’ve built by doing all these things. Let’s take these 5 mini illustrations as an example. I knew beforehand which flowers I’m going to draw. These were quite easy for me to draw since I got a chance to see all of them in real life and made sketches of most of them multiple times before. Thanks to this I could easily make these compositions without using any reference pictures. Hope it all makes sense for you!! I’ll definitely share this part of the process in details in the future!
