Any advice for trying to maintain frayed relationships that were caused by the increased political polarization in this country. So often I find myself wanting to stay silent when my friends/family parrot conspiracy theories as fact because I know confrontation would result in nothing but escalating tensions. In a recent conversation with a coworker, he said he was worried about his wife getting the vaccine. I was able to tell him I had just gotten mine and that it wasn't affecting me in the ways he was worried about. The conversation was going well until about five minutes later it ended with "The government controls the weather, man. Hurricane Katrina was created to kill black people." I'm still not sure how we got so derailed so quickly. My question is: What is the best way to approach conversation with people consumed by conspiracy, and how do we combat this kind of insane misinformation?

I was wondering if any of you were following the controversy in the medical sciences over aerosols and Covid? Early in the pandemic, a paper published in a physics journal and cosigned by 200-something scientists were warning about the 6-feet rule not being stringent enough. Another article has come out recently getting into the history and context that prompted the paper. Found here: https://www.wired.com/story/the-teeny-tiny-scientific-screwup-that-helped-covid-kill/ My background is in the medical sciences (cardiology) and it was clear to a lot of us that the CDC dropped the ball early on. Even when they have the right ideas and good advice, people are hesitant ( totally justified) to trust them. They also really suck at communicating to the public. Between the in-fighting in the medical sciences (mostly gate-keeping and politics) and the poor PR, I wonder how public health is going to look moving forward.

Do you have any quick advice about thinking critically about the news? Also, I was a janitor at a university for most of the pandemic, and even though my employer did an amazing job keeping me and my colleagues safe, I wanted to thank you you and your team because I so coped with dealing with the unknown by listening to Even More News! As a white dude from Amarillo, the first time I even heard the term Critical Race Theory was in a law school class called Race and the Law when I was 35 at the University of Texas. Is there a chance you guys could do an episode on CRT on SMN? I know your audience base is mostly white, and I think it could be really helpful for a lot of people who were denied exposure to the concept growing up. Love you guys.
