Hi. In today's episode, Katy and Cody talk about the Supreme Court's bad decisions, the pointlessness of suspending the gas tax, and Amazon's weird, unsettling, voice-mimicking Alexa technology. Plus, we take a moment to express overall frustration about the Democrats' fecklessness and the state of things in general.

Hooray. A news drop the same day SC officially overturns Roe.

(OT, but I gotta vent a bit) It's really fcked that this is 2022, and I'm watching women in the U.S. lose their right to choose what happens with their own bodies. Just really, really fcked. And of course, the fascist GOP is *also* attacking trans rights in many states. Bleak.

6:54 "maybe the news that will come tomorrow will not be as terrible as we're all expecting". Bless your heart Jonathan, if only you knew. <3

Aussie here, I opened up my preferred news app and saw the decision just as y'all began discussions. What a kick to the head. I just have nothing but words of compassion and sorrow for your nation. And fear, so much fear for where things will go from here.

I always wanted Alan Rickman to read Goodnight, Moon to me. I can't talk about the news right now because I've heard enough. And I hate that damn song. Just run on back down that hill, Kate.

"...stuff we've been talking about for years happening, and it feels like getting punched over and over." Decades for some of this stuff, Katy, issues I was aware of as a young child in the early 90s that weren't taken seriously and still aren't, even as they're happening, even as courts and legislators codify some of the absolute nightmare scenarios most people would say could never happen in this country. My belief is drained every day that there's some way we turn it around and advance as a society and a species in drastic enough ways to save our planet and ourselves before it's too late. Climate change, radical restructuring of governments and policies, nuclear winter, pick your poison, that doomsday clock isn't turning back. Edit: After writing this and resuming the show, I had a thought about maybe I should write an edit saying I appreciate Jonathan, then he successfully breaks the dismal mood with an invitation to talk about Lightyear. Keep doing what you do, my dude, I appreciate ya.

so... how do you charge the supreme court for violating the constitution?

Maybe we should start a "secret society" or something... that seems to be working out for some of them, right?

I know it's not the point but I did laugh at the bit about Keemstar.

We are the regulators. 18th Century English was very circumspect when addressing "distasteful" matters. Example: "Dandy" -- A male of the human species who dresses as a doll and wears his character on his back. (1st addition of Webster's)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_SMIxlEbOxM This cover is the only reason i knew about the song before stranger things and this cover only came out about a year ago so me saying "i'm nostalgic" would be silly. Great song and great cover regardless

The 2nd Amendment was redefined in the court case District of Columbia v. Heller. "The Court held that the Second Amendment protects an individual right to possess a firearm unconnected with service in a militia, and to use that firearm for traditionally lawful purposes, such as self- defense within the home."

Nick Ulanowski

The answer is a proletariat revolution, Katy… not the two party system. If even someone like Katy can’t seen to recognize that then we’re truly fucked. Climate change will continue to exacerbate under global capitalism. Because there’s no profit motive to change it

I was just thinking how weird the idea of the Supreme Court is. We've got a very small group of people with lifetime appointments who pretty much get final say over the nation. Ever see a movie that depicted a society with a high council with that kind of power? Usually they are straight up evil, sometimes just ineffective. Like, the plot of the movie usually involves our protagonist railing against them because they are wrong. This is not an invitation for "well, in [movie X] the council is good" - my point is we've been warning ourselves about this very situation for decades.
