Hi. Actor and comedian Payam Banifaz (@pbani on Instagram) joins Katy and Cody to talk about the ongoing movement in Iran and why people outside of Iran should continue to pay attention and show their support. They also talk about the arrests of voters by Ron DeSantis' election police, where we're at less than three weeks from the midterms, and the resignation of U.K. Prime Minister Liz Truss.

Hi Katy and Cody, while we should support the protestors in Iran, I think if that message is being delivered by someone whose grandpa was a general for the Shah, then it’s important to acknowledge that the previous regime was at least as bad as the current regime. And, while the IRI regime is terrible, there are plenty of others out there who are at least as bad: MbS in Saudi Arabia, Putin, Bolsonaro, Modi in India, Erdogan in Turkey (also oppressing the Kurds, like the IRI).

Things in Iran is the result of American intervention. The CIA overthrew their democratically elected leader and installed the Shah. And subsequently killed off all the leftists leaving the religious extremists who went on to oust the Shah alone. All because the leader our country ousted wanted to nationalize their oil industry.

Really enjoyed this episode.
