Thank you, Kyla, for referencing Society of the Spectacle. I highly recommend it!

Money is more fake now than it's ever been. Not a reductive concept. Back when Dick Cheney said the quiet part out loud: “Reagan proved deficits don't matter,” I realized that the folks who appeared to be the most hawkish about finances really could care less.

Watching her YouTube channel I'm starting to suspect her version of "money isn't real" is less about money being a social construct and more about "fiat" being how governments steal from you (seems like a crypto stan, is what I'm saying, so I'll be taking it with an extra grain of salt) :/

Love you guys, but please stop diminishing the companies that stood to lose everything in the SVB collapse. The company I work for a) had some funds there (not all), and b) uses Rippling to run payroll. Hourly workers did not get paid last Friday. These are not tech people, but healthcare-adjacent workers. They are mostly women, from all walks of life, working remotely all over the country with families and bills they need to pay on time. Many of my company's clients also banked at SVB. Things almost went very badly for a whole lot of "regular" people, and we don't appreciate the dismissiveness.

Sigh...uptalk. Right? Like? Totally? Whatever? How did language fail *BACK* to Valley Girl? I have a degree in Economics, and I explain complex financial, healthcare, and technology concepts on a daily basis to laymen. I guess I should change my way of speaking though? And then I could talk to them about hustle culture? And passive income? So I sound more like a moron? So I can be more approachable? And then I am less scary? And not a crusty old Gen Xer? Or I could not do that and continue to be paid actual dollars for actual work instead of digital dollars in trade for followers or "passive income" (that is merely living off of other people's work which is identical to the capital class of citizenry except that you aren't rich yet). I look forward to you pitching KylaCoin within the next 5 years.

I have a question about the economy: does money in fact grow on trees?
