The guy who came in the coat closet when Lesley was in there was John McCain. He was a prisoner of war in Vietnam and later served as a U.S. Senator for Arizona for 31 years. He ran for president in 2000 against George W. Bush and in 2008 against Barack Obama.

I have a job interview tomorrow and there were more than 100 candidates :( This outro touched a nerve lol

The episode title is a reference to the classic 1939 film “Mr Smith Goes to Washington” starring Jimmy Stewart as an idealistic, politically naive man who is appointed to the US Senate. It has one of the best monologues of all time.

I agree with the moment between Chris and Ron. It was such a good one between them. I personally like the idea of a D.C. storyline for Ben and April while Leslie starts as a councilwoman in Pawnee. It’s a good opportunity for character development and new storylines :) You are correct! That was John McCain in the closet where Leslie was ☺️

sarina

You’ve got this! Don’t be afraid to talk yourself up and say why you’d be the best for the job 🫶🏻

love the political cameos moving forward in the show!!! you've got a few good ones coming up ;)

Katie Niekamp

Those were real senators and as someone mentioned the guy in the closet was the late senator John McCain. From SNL cast cameos to now real US politician cameos!

And Ms doesn't require that you've been married. It was created by feminists to be the equivelent to "Mr." which doesn't identify marital status (as opposed to Miss and Mrs.)

Susen

Aaaand I think we've discovered that you need to see the Back to the Future trilogy (in spite of Nick seeing the first one). :) But it was great that you'd seen National Treasure and got that reference with Andy!

IrishYankee

And the two women Ben introduced to Leslie that she said were hero's are Senators Barbara Boxer (California) and Olympia Snowe (Maine).

DN Reacts

Sorry it was the first example I could think of. I hope the interview went well 😊

Fun fact: my great grandfather worked on the Southern Railway in an engine just like the one Andy was attempting to climb. It’s huge.

Ms is an unmarried older woman. Don’t call a 50 yo Miss…. It’s cringy.
