Better than battle of the bastards…don’t @ me

Constantin Freudenthaler

When Aegon IV (the unworthy) was on his deathbed, he made the horrible decision to legitimize every single one of his bastards, which he apparently had hundrets of. These bastards formed the house Blackfyre, named after the legendary Targaryen sword and ended up rebelling against the crown. Their claim was, that the heir, Daeron, was not the king's trueborn son (which is probably true) Many lords joined them, trying to make Daemon Blackfyre king. In the end, the royalists won the Blackfyre rebellion and Daeron (the good) is still king at the time of the show. So at the time of the flashback, the rebellion has basically just ended.

I've read the book and I actually believed for that long minute that Dunk had died. They done us dirty there 😂

AdamAshcraft222

Nothing like a drunk Ser Arlan busting out the tavern screaming “In the Name of the Mother”. Interesting to see how someone so crude is still somehow ten times more a real knight than most the other knights of the realm who would’ve most likely overlooked that whole situation despite swearing to defend the young and the innocent.

You know, I used to think Daeron’s dream was about Baelor and Dunk, but now I don’t think Baelor’s the dragon but someone else. There was no fire.

Constantin Freudenthaler

In the books, Aerion actually does go for his sword after yielding. I love the decision of the show to make him a great fighter and fairly respectable during this battle. It makes his character feel less like a comic book villain.

When I first watched this episode I knew Dunk wasn’t going to die but, like most people, still really doubted he’d survive. At one point I remember shouting out loud ‘Stop getting stabbed!’ And watching Aerion getting dragged to face the crowd was the best. On a lighter note, a friend of mine coaches soccer and when someone goes down she likes to yell out ‘Get up Ser Duncan!’ and it’s delightful

BloodyBen

And its not even close

BloodyBen

In the novella Daeron doesn't mention a fire, not sure why they added that bit

That’s precisely why I think it’s referring to something else. GRRM was heavily involved with this show and we’ve learned a lot more about Dunk and Egg’s story post-novellas in the years since The Hedge Knight was published.

Matthew Huff

There are multiple YouTube videos analyzing the battle. Most conclude it’s one of the most accurate depictions of medieval fighting. There are subtle elements they point out that point to a master fighting historian being involved. https://youtu.be/DraHfYnVchw?si=gGV0eNv6yNDgYJI5

Constantin Freudenthaler

How was he heavily involved? Didn't really come across that way from Ira Perlers interviews/behind the scenes stuff

Halima

That’s how it came across in interviews. Ira said he ran things by GRRM and if GRRM said no or that it didn’t make sense, he listened. This particular change is a big one, and given what Dexter accidentally leaked, I deffo think the dream was about something else.

I was like Daemo, pulling my t shirt up to my eyes as if that would protect me from the horror, the shock. Perfectly written, cast, and the POV cinematography was remarkable. Baelor was an honorable son of an honorable king; both were just and because it’s so rare in Martin’s world, they were monogamous husbands to Dornish women that they deeply loved. The young man who portrayed Dunk nailed his Irish accent. Peter was a pro rugby player so I’m sure he was a pleasure to train. Shout out to Ireland for being such a beautiful place to film. I’m so glad to be watching this with you.

Paul Connolly

Daemon Blackfyre was a bastard son of Aegon IV who tried to claim the throne from Daeron II, Baelor and Maekar's father. His Rebellion was put down but his sons escaped with Bittersteel and fled across the Narrow Sea. The song that Egg was singing when he was in the tree was about how Baelor and Maekar put down the rebellion.

MerriMom

I love attention to authentic detail in the ways of ancient fighting. I was intrigued enough to watch House of David after I found out Dash Rendar trained the namesake in authentically fighting by sling. Having the right people train actors, and the actors themselves going above and beyond really levels up the entire battle.

YorkieJ

My favourite theory at the moment is that Duncan did indeed die In that moment but he was resurrected by the seven. I’ll talk more on this theory in the next episode!!

Jackdeel🔱

maekar and baelor were really close known as the hammer and the anvil maeker was kinda cold but a good man

Cactus Josh

In Episode 3, Egg sings a song explaining the Rebellion that had just ended in the flashback. Prince Baelor was the first born, Prince Maekar sprang out last. Daemon was the bastard, So they kicked his bastard... Probably worth looking up some lore on the first Blackfyre rebellion.

Jackson Potluck

I'm pretty sure he left it like that on purpose. It can be either or both or none

Jackson Potluck

I can't not cry when Baelor dies. I've read the books so many times. I cannot not cry.

David McCaman

Maekar was not next in line - far from it.

Syl

This scene when Egg screams wait… goosebumps! 😩🥹

I don't want to give anything away but I'll say that "richer than a Lannister" may not necessarily mean money.
