I’ll preface this by just mentioning I worked professionally in the field (exclusively managing the “ground” game ie door-to-door canvassing, voter registration drives, etc) for political campaigns for over 12 years in 4 states from 2010-2022 and this was a campaign staple. We don’t really wear shirts, etc. of other candidates than ours or down ticket candidates…but Knope 2012 were a common favorite. It’s beloved.

There will some cameos you’ll enjoy seeing including multiple ones by her biggest crush, then sitting VP and future POTUS Joe Biden. President Obama may not pop up but another Obama you’ll recognize just might later on. I wish he had and did embrace shows like this as if you haven’t seen it President Obama did bring Key onstage as his official “anger translator” at a WH correspondents dinner in real life. I’ve had the fortune to have met 3 sitting/former US presidents through my work and Obama/Biden were two of those. Politics all aside I can say them in person are very much laid back, with personalities that jive very well with a lot of their portrayals in shows like this and the characters of this show in particular.

Just one more quick note is that elections like this here would be a simple +1 more vote to win the entire election. That’s of course rare but happens and the smaller the election the less votes meaning it’s going to be decided by a very small amount of votes. Now that can mean 50-100 votes can and would separate but also could mean an actual margin of victory of that many votes translates to 5-10% points for a local seat in a little ole place in Indiana in real life. I only ramble on about that to ramble on a little more about the polls. Polls can be very useless of course but anytime there’s a race that would have a 2 point difference should be looked at as a tie as polls are done with an error of margin. Good polls = lower margins but really a 3.5-4% margin of error is a pretty good poll. That would mean Bobby could actually have a 5.5-6% point lead or reversely Leslie could actually end up winning (is leading) by 1.5-2% points too according to that poll. A statistical tie. Just lastly, a tie would be decided by anything from another special election/run off or a simple, literal coin toss DEPENDING on the state. In my home state of Virginia a legislative house seat was decided in 2017 by picking one of two names that were each inside of a little film canister that were placed in a large clear bowl. lol Yes. Not only did they pick the winner by that old 1705 law “winner out of a hat” method, that one seat decided the entire majority control of the VA House of Delegates for the following 2 years and passing/voting down the new governors legislative agenda esp. important as the controlling Republican Party needed to hold that one seat (and they did after the name drawing) to maintain 51-49 seat control. All because of the 11,680-11,680 tie.

Haha at 'Bobby Knope', I was also amused Damo said it twice before realising. The 'pie in face' scene with Jerry was such a hard watch. Good thing the writers gave him this happy home life (and wide range of artistic talents) to compensate, if they hadn't it would just feel like mean-spirited cruel workplace bullying.

Bit of a spoiler no?
