Thank you for the great reactions! Love hearing your thoughts at the end as always! Lyonel Baratheon has become one of my favourite characters, loved him so much, he was hilarious 😂

Red is Rowan, so it's the same whore who felt pity for Dunk in episode 1 (and cheered in audience in episode 5) who got together with Raymun at the end and apparently made Raymun believe he is gonna be a pop soon. I think she used name "Red" when she was working as a whore, but probably not a fitting name for a lady marrying into a noble house so they call her Rowan Fossoway now instead. Same way like Dunk started calling himself Ser Duncan the Tall once he became a knight. Fun fact the actress who plays Red/Rowan is also called Rowan in real life. She is a show only character included for the series and does not exist in the books so maybe they just wanted to nod the actress for that name. Thank you for the reactions, it's been a real pleasure rewatching the whole GoT, HOTD and AKOTSK again with you. It has been super fun watch and now waiting for HOTD s3 and AKOTSK s2 to air.

i love they never will FULLY say he wasn't knighted because it doesn't matter. he acts as a truer knight than most knights

You guys have seen the young actor (Dexter Sol Ansell) who plays Egg before, albeit very briefly- he played the youngest version of President Snow in the first few minutes of Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes! Not necessarily for a reaction, but I recommend watching some of the behind the scenes stuff on HBO, it’s really good! I also recommend looking up interviews with the Dunk and Egg actors on YT, little Dexter is freaking adorable.

Morten Stenseth

Did you miss they changed the title to the knight of the nine kingdom at the end there?

TES

My favorite moment in this finale is Daeron talking about the danger of Egg becoming evil. When he says something like "I didn't mean Egg, but we'll make a man out of him too." Like, if he grows up with us he's gonna be just as troubled as evil Aerion or drunk Daeron. Dunk taking him away and raising him right could take him. And we see, Egg, like all Targaryens have that fire in him. When he yelled "kill him!" when he saw Aerion jousting (before he stabbed the horse), or obviously when he was gonna kill him. Also, the women where Maekar catches Egg with the knife, and he doesn't yell, he just puts his hands on Egg's shoulders and Egg just feels relieved. You can tell how complicated the family is, and how Maekar knows Egg is in a troubled situation. Lastly, Egg addressed in episode four why he hates Aerion so much. The whole part about him putting his knife in between his legs, throwing his cat down the well...he's clearly an abuser close to Joffrey levels of evil at his worse.

TES

I would recommend not, the actor who plays Egg has accidentally spoiled some stuff going forward, even for book fans. I'm not sure if they will matter for the show, but as the writers intend to go beyond where GRRM has published, I think for them if they want to stay with as little spoilers as possible they should skip it, unless someone here, like a mod, can provide them with interviews where Dexter doesn't spoil!

Joe Brown

for a period after that, if you googled the name of the show, google would say "did you mean "a knight of the nine kingdoms"?"

Joe Brown

something that really bothers me is how the reveal that Egg was lying about having Maekar's permission to go with Dunk really destroys Egg's would-be character arc this season. this season could have been about Egg learning how his actions can cause harm to others because of his royal status even if he means well - he gets Dunk into trouble by running away with him initially and also by getting him to save Tanselle from Aerion rather than going to Baelor. its not exactly Egg's fault, and its not right, but it is reality and this season couldve been about Egg learning the importance of being more careful with regards to things like this, being mindful of how his royal position affects things and can bring harm to others. but instead, at the end of the season he makes the same mistake again and sets Dunk up to potentially be in tremendous trouble if hes caught with Egg since Egg lied about Maekar allowing it.

JASON

What a crazy week for that junior septon. Shows up to the tourney to bless a girl's birthday party and ends up having to officiate a Trial of Seven, a royal funeral, and a surprise wedding. Imagine being an Intern and they just gave you all the stressful tasks lmaoo

Joe Brown

interesting that Damo said Dexter was "born for the part" of Egg, because George R R Martin said essentially the same thing

Joe Brown

remember that scene in GOT where Aemon gives Jon a "time to come into your own as an adult" type speech? "kill the boy, Jon Snow, kill the boy and let the man be born". in the books, he compares Jon becoming Lord Commander of the Night's Watch to Aemon's brother becoming King, and says "it takes an Aegon to be King, not an Egg".

Perrin

Rowan is Red. The whole joke of all those scenes is that Raymun is marrying a whore seemingly without knowing it. Including she's apparently pregnant after spending the previous night with him - obviously impossible, so she's carrying presumably some John's kid to be raised as a Fossoway.

Joe Brown

Egg explicitly referred to Valarr as "second in line for the throne" but beyond that yeah it isnt made super clear how many people there are in the line of succession in just this show alone. Rhaegal and Aerys are mentioned so we know that they exist in show-canon but you'd have to look up who they are to know theyre brothers to Baelor and Maekar.

TLC

Joe, I posted the line in an early thread. I can't remember which. I even included the females even though we know they would be excluded.

Joe Brown

pretty sure i posted it myself prior to that, on episode 3 i think. my point here is that they said in this episode that the show didnt make it clear within the content of the show, so i was commenting on that point by them

TLC

What an amazing season....it is so different from GoT or HotD yet it still feels like part of the universe. I've loved this journey but it ended too quick. Speaking of endings the use of 16 tons, while shocking, was an excellent movie choice for the closing music. Others have explained Red & Rowan... Yes Egg clearly lied and once again put his desires before the consequences he must know will come but you have to remember he's only 9 years old and has lived a privileged life...its not surprising he is acting like a spoiled 9 year old.

KomoUpNorth

In the book Maekar gives Egg his blessing to go with Dunk. He does this by giving Egg his signet ring in case they get into any trouble they can flash that. Now if you watch closely when Maekar is talking with Dunk you can see that ring on his hand but in the last scene you see both Maekar's hands are ringless. So the current theory is he did give Egg permission but put on a show to make it seem like he did run away.

Joe Brown

i hadnt considered that possibility but i really hope its the case honestly (i left another comment explaining why i hate Egg lying about Maekar giving him permission)

KomoUpNorth

It's really weird they would change it. so im betting there's gonna be a scene next season where its addressed In some fashion.

Sarah_M

Nick you did well to call out Egg at the end there. Like the fool I am, I just believed him. 😂

Merri-gal

And Raymun is a decent and happy fellow, so they will be happy.

Merri-gal

I agree. The making of videos are great!

Cactus Josh

Raymun is good-hearted, moderately wealthy, but a bit naive. Rowan is clever and has seen a the whole breadth of society. They're good for each other.

KomoUpNorth

Maybe, we'll have to wait and see how its addressed. For sure in the books he's given permission.

Merri-gal

Daeron drinks excessively to cope with being an unwilling Oracle, but he’s a good older brother when he goes to Dunk with Egg and also when he lets Dunk know what will probably happen to Egg if Dunk doesn’t keep him safe and teach him. I love poor tortured Daeron for this.
