Ben's "These college interns really need to be whipped into shape, but don't worry, because they call me Devo, 'cause I can "whip 'em good."" joke was a reference to the American new wave band Devo, who had an early-80s hit with 'Whip It'. Not that surprising you didn't get it - not only is it 45 years old, it was also a far bigger hit and popular culture presence in the US than in Europe (just UK #51). Myself I mainly know it from a hilarious parody on 'The Simpsons', from 'The Simpson Family Smile-Time Variety Hour' segment of their 'potential spin-offs' episode, with Waylon Smithers performing it cracking a whip (licorice whip!). Like Damo I also didn't get what Ed Sheeran song Nick was referring to, he's had some barmy song titles but surely he can't have had a song called 'When Your Legs Don't Work Like They Should'. Turns out it's a lyric from 'Thinking Out Loud', a song I have not (willingly) heard in over a decade (really not a Sheeran fan).

Not to get too political, but trying to tax more money out of a company that employs half the town is probably not going to be super beneficial for Pawneeans and their jobs.

I love these moral lessons you take from Parks, among many other comedy shows. It's just really beautiful!

Um... its a sales tax. The customer would pay it by buying sodas lol. Plus its on all soda, a single company wouldnt be targeted.
