By creating those paintings and painting a bunch of white people black in order to make him feel more at home, the company is diminishing him and making his entire existence about the color of his skin. It's also a form of black face. It's what we often call a microaggression. It's actually really complex and involves hundreds of years of oppression, but that's some of the issue. Also please stop calling people that were painted with a darker skin his ancestors. Kier wasn't black. That's nobody's ancestor. Also you're basically saying all black people are related

Regarding Dylan's weird family photo: there are novelty photo studios in malls in the US where you can dress up in like Old West or Prohibition-Era Mobster outfits and pose on a set for photos with a old timey filter.

I think the guys didn't realize the paintings were of Kier, but black. They seemed to think they literally were meant to show that Milchick's grandpa was a contemporary of Kier Eagan. They must have forgotten we've already seen those exact same paintings, just with Kier as his actual race.

Fun extra Episode 1 fact. Ben stiller originally asked Barack Obama to voice the building. But he turned it down. Also, the actual building in real life is a pretty cool co-working space in Delaware. They have basketball courts in the main open area and a food carts.

woman looks at a big, strong man, hesitates and decides to step back. our boys are confused as to why. "She must have recognised him," they say. to me, also a woman, that scene very clearly read as "She's scared for her life". it was pretty obvious, I think, that Harmony didn't buy Helena's promise of a position at Lumon and suddenly the thought occurred to her that they might just kill her and get rid of her because she had finally become too uncomfortable. so she preferred to live to fight another day. and that guy was just the visual reminder that Lumon are scary and cannot be trusted. coupled with Helena's eyes, of course, but the boys were too busy scribbling down info to notice those. guys, if at all possible, maybe learn to take notes without looking down? 🤣 kidding but also not kidding. I sometimes do it, and though it's not the most legible text that I have produced, you will miss less of the action 😊 in any case - great discussion as always!
